After reading about the DP warning (clearing the matrix) I've got a couple questions...
First with the DP IRD in legacy mode will it still run the DPTwin LNBF?? Or would I have to get a legacy (dual) LNBF??
Does anyone know if its necessary to get the legacy adapter if you have one DP IRD (ie. 301) in your setup?
I can't use my 4900 on the DP setup without the legacy adapter right? But if I have a DP IRD hooked up will it run the LNBF and allow the 4900 to work ok?
Just trying to figure out where I have to dump cash!
DP IRD?
Legacy dual LNB and switches?
Or just the 70-80$$ legacy adapter???
TIA

Comment 1 - GET YOUR TERMINOLOGY STRAIGHT !!!
If you have a DishPro type receiver (301, 501/508, 721), you can run these straight off of both the DISHPRO LNB's / switches. They will also work WITH NO ADAPTERS on the Legacy LNB's /switches.
Your 4900 will not run on the DISHPRO LNB's / switches without the adapter.
So, the big question is what kind of LNB do you have or have ordered ? If you got a DISHPRO TWIN or DISHPRO QUAD, then get the Legacy adapter for your 4900. If you got a LEGACY TWIN or a LEGACY QUAD, then you shouldn't need anything additional.
Scooper I should yell at you also to get your terminology straight it is a Dish Pro adapter for Legacy receivers not a Legacy adapter.

Scooper if youll read my post my terminology is just fine! I stated that I have a DPTwinLNBF and I have a 4900 IRD. I am trying to find out if getting a 301 or other DP IRD will eliminate the need for the DishPro adapter for legacy receivers (thanks boba!) or if I would still require the adapter...
Thanks...
Sounds like I will need the adapter regardless of any other IRD's...
Bummer....

AKwormy - If I yell at people , it's because their terminology ISN'T clear to me. To me, your whole post was a jumble of unorganized thoughts - showing no clue how things fit together, no explanation of your current equipment, nor a stated endgoal - I've gone off worse on people who HAD stated these concisely.
Go back to english class.
As far as my terminolgy - at least you had no problems figuring out what I was stating - And besides - I've heard it called both ways.

You know what... I had typed up a big response where I illustrated all the faults with your argument... but then I decided that I'm not as big of an ******* as you are....
So thanks for trying to help me (yeah right) and I'm glad your not the typical person I've encountered in this hobby...

Scooper, you have no right to "go off" on anyone. That's no way to treat anyone, much less a new guy who is only looking for a few answers.
Well said, akwormy and 'welcome' to DBSTalk. :)

akwormy (and for any other newbies out there) -
I remember the internet BEFORE there was a World Wide Web - when the graphics were passed along over 2400 Baud modems. This was a time when newbies to a forum (usually an email list) went back and read any FAQ's AND OLD POSTS before they started asking questions. These questions were done in PLAIN, easy to understand, ENGLISH (or other language, as appropriate). This idea of looking at old posts and using proper english seems to have escaped the "new generation" of internet users - Joe Sixpack who decided to go buy a computer at Best Buy, uses AOL to see what this "Internet thing" is. His usual arrival on a forum is exactly like akwormy's was - a quick question without no clue that he has actually reviewed old information, or even bothered to use the forum's "SEARCH" function on topics relating to his question, then the question that he asks is a jumble of mismatched thoughts, that almost no one will recognize.
If I'm an ass for asking for such a small amount of "self-help" - so be it. I'll continue to flame such "a$$holes" as I see fit. If you'll go back over my history, you'll see that I'm generally an easy-to get type of guy, with this one big obsession. I'm more than willing to give such help as I can, when the questioner can ask a proper question.
And Nick - get over yourself about being "self righteous" on telling other people how they should and should not act. If you got a problem with me or my attitude on this - take it private.
