View Full Version : Equipment and Install plan
Hi everyone. I’m getting ready to make the switch back to D* after a 5 year hiatus. I have 4 RG6 runs out to my dish location, and I want to get some recommendations, options and opinions on equipment and install ideas.
Here’s what I want to do (I think). I want to feed 4 TV’s from 2 centrally located HD receivers (4 Rf remotes?). What dish / LNB combo do I need? Which receivers should I get? What’s the best place to buy the equipment? Can I use a standard signal splitter? What did I forget?
Thanks.
Joe

Call 1-800-DIRECTV. They'll set you up with a slimline dish, and a combination of HD DVRs and receivers. They should handle all the wiring for you and bring all the equipment.

Joe you will probably need 4 receivers the H20 and HR20 have HDMI & Component outputs for HDTV but they don't have a RF (ch3/4) output for channel distribution. It maybe a little more costly $5/Mo. to go with basic receivers at each TV than to buy UHF remotes and add a modulated distribution system.:)
I don't think a standard DirecTV install would take care of cabling from the HD receivers to multiple TV sets. You would need to take care of that detail yourself.
I would suggest putting an HD DVR at each of two TV locations, then wire from there to the second tv that each will feed. How you do that (hdmi, component, or a non-HD solution) is something you need to determine.
DirecTV will provide the recieves/dvrs, the dish, and the wiring from the dish to the receivers. They will also connect the local tv.
You do understand with only two receivers (or DVRs) you will only have two program sources (i.e., the two TVs connected to each receiver/dvr must watch the same thing). You can't feed a different channel to a second TV even though the DVR is dual tuner.

Hmmmm. May have to rethink this a bit. The main reason for wanting to "distribute" the signal was to have TV capability in some rooms that will be very low use SD viewing (guest room, garage, etc...)
