According to several former DirecTV retailers, Dun & Bradstreet, a collections agency hired by DirecTV, is contacting dealers concerning alleged overdue chargebacks.

During the past week, many former DirecTV dealers are receiving phone calls from the collections agency in regards to sums unpaid. Retailers reported the agency is seeking payment far beyond the time their retailer contracts were canceled by DirecTV. Some dealers have complained the agency is threatening legal action if the sums are not paid.

In a letter from Dun & Bradstreet to retailers, the agency says that "additional amounts may become due as provided by the terms of your dealer contract." The letter continued, "DirecTV’s records indicate they have previously provided (the retailer) with an itemization of the account balance."

"The Dun & Bradstreet letter is aimed at certain dealers who still owe DirecTV for chargebacks on our prepaid commissions, despite being given ample time to clear their accounts balances," said a DirecTV spokesperson. "Many of these dealers have not been actively engaged in the DirecTV business.

"Under the terms of our dealer agreements, dealers are required to repay a portion of the pre-paid commission if the customer activated by that dealer disconnects within a 12-month period," the spokesperson said.
