My HR20-100 install ended on a slightly sour note today. :nono2:

Not the fault of the installer, but the HR20-100 was DOA. Upon first power-up, the blue LED's lit up and then slowly faded out to black. It wouldn't power on after that.

Of course, we didn't find this out until after the slimline dish had been installed, the additional pair of coax wires ran, and the Zinwell WB68 multiswitch installed.

The installer is supposed to show up tomorrow morning with another HR20 and we'll try it and see if it will power-up and stay on.

Is this a common problem with the HR20's?

I've been around this forum for a while now and I haven't heard many stories of a DOA HR20. Of course because these are electronic devices there is always a chance that can happen and it is very unfortunate that it happened to you.

Try and look on the bright side (if possible) you will have a new unit today and I would have rather had a unit die on me immediately then after I've tweaked it with all of my series links and even worse had a ton of HD recordings on it only to be lost.

My HD upgrade / Installed ended after 8 hours with the tech not knowing how to deal with a simple single mutli-switch setup that left me completely dead in the water. I had to reconnect everything just to get any video whatsoever. It took another visit from another tech to get my HD channels after that.

So this morning the installer shows up and has two HR20-700's in his truck.

He connects up the HR20-700 and can only get Tuner1 to acknowledge a signal. Tuner2 is not working. He swaps the two satellite input cables and still only Tuner1 works. Plus the OTA input is not working at all, even though we know it has a strong signal.

I suggest that perhaps it's the receiver (again).

He goes to his truck, gets the second HR20-700 (it was supposed to be installed for another customer in the afternoon) and connects it up. Voila! Both tuners show signal and the OTA input works! Yea!

So, only one completely working receiver out of three.

DirecTV, you seem to have a quality control problem.
