View Full Version : 3 Free Months of Showtime
Wooooohoooooo! Free Showtime from Dec. 1st-Feb. 28th! Did anyone else get this "valued-customer-red-carpet-treatment" of free Showtime from Dish?
Got mine, is was suppose to start first part of Oct (think it finally got fully turned on late Oct) and is good through Jan 10.
I like it cause I just went HD, and now I get Sho-HD for free for the first few months. We will decide at the end if we are going to turn it on for good.
Heard someone else whose started around the first of Nov.
Enjoy.

I've been a loyal Sho customer for two years. Shouldn't I get a reward?

How are people being notified about the free preview? I never get a paper bill and never get any phone solicitation.

As is mentioned in many of these threads you receive a postcard.
Just out of curiosity, what programming packages are you currently subscribed to? E* may be targetting those with AT150 or those with HBO. It would be interesting to note the programming packages of those who received the offer.

well now, I've been a E* subscriber for years, and showtime as well. I want a 3months credit for Showtime!
jhall, you have to be a "Valued Customer". Maybe they will allow you to participate in the AT150CD free preview, which I will not get a credit for. :)
I got a notice recently for the Free Showtime.

..Doyle AT150
Locals
HBO The Works
Credit Card Autopay
I had the Everything Pak since I first subscribed up until this summer.
I think if you subscribe to AT150 and have been a customer for at least 2 years, you'll get the offer.
Dish called me today regarding a question on whether I had purchased or leased my equipment. I took advantage of the call to ask about the Showtime promotion and basically got the same info that Kevin stated above. It is a thankyou to long term customers. I tried but couldn't weasel a promotion for myself since I am only a 1 month old customer. I'll take the AT150 promotion coming up next week and then upgrade after it finishes.

Does anyone know if we have to go through "unsubscribe" process in the end of 3-month period, or they do it themselves?
Thanks,
Mike

I'd plan on calling up, just to be safe (if you don't want it, that is)...

Mike I don't think Dish would give you free channels as a gift and then make you unsubscribe to them manually. Doesn't seem like a good business practice to reward your customers and then try to screw them over by making you cancel them yourself (which would mean that you would have to pay the $5 downgrade fee). However, when I first subscribed to E*, I recieved all the movie packages free for 3 months and they made you call up and cancel them yourself after the 3 months were up or else they would start billing you for them. But E* made it clear in the contract that you had to cancel the channels (and pay the $5 downgrade fee for each package) or else you would start being billed for them.
I don't recall seeing any fine print on the Free Showtime postcard saying that you would have to cancel the channels yourself, so I'm pretty sure that the channels will be automatically removed after the 3-month promo is up. However I would call Dish just to be safe about it.

Everyone is a candidate but until you get the postcard it does not mean much.
The problem with a promotion like this is that while the subs who receive it are grateful those who do not feel left out or passed over. Many have even expressed a feeling of entitlement to something they are not apoying for.
BTW I am not immune to this,. I got SHO but a piece of me resents those of you who got STARZ. Oh well.
I called up and got 3 months of 3 Cinemax channels for free!
Don't know how but he didn't sound like it was unusual.

I had the 6 months of free Skinimax with subscription to HBO. Had to call Dish to unsubscribe after it showed up on my bill.

I do agree that the word gets around sometimes and those that do not get the deal that see others getting the deal that are sometimes good customers are well makes them think that they are getting the bad end of the deal, that everyone else gets a better deal than them, and they end up looking for other deals elsewhere. I had a customer call me asking about DirecTv because they heard of the three months free Showtime, and 15 free pay per views, and I think some other free channels, and this customer has been a good customer for a few years now which pays over $50 a month.
Top 150, HBO the Works, Starz super pak, 2 Distant Cities, Superstations, with 6 Total receivers, and a Subscriber since 1998, got my "Valued Customer" postcard back in October to notify me of the Free 3 Months of Showtime until Jan 10, ironic since thats my birthday.

Are they doing this because of the 301 losing authorization problem? Sort of a compensation?

I don't believe so since I have a 3900 and I got the promo (although my 3900 works like crap sometimes, too). It's more like a reward for being a E* sub for 2 or more years, or Dish's attempt at getting new Showtime subs after the promo is finished.

I received a phone call from an automated recording at DISH telling me that because of the 301 problem I am getting three months of Showtime for free, staring Dec. 1.
