First off let me thank everyone for the information posted on this board...I learned a ton before taking the plunge and signing up.

Decided to take a report card approach to sum up my overall experience when signing up.

Direct TV Customer Service: B
Talked to a nice lady when signing up. Got the Sunday Ticket deal they have running right now along with $100 credit spread over ten months along with a $50 Visa gift card. Tried to get an additional free dish for the RV...no go.
Equipment purchased included:
1 HR20
2 R-15’s
1 Standard Receiver
Total bill with tax and everything was around $425.

Installation Experience: C+
My experience wasn’t the greatest. My appointment was for Monday between 8-12. I called at 7am Monday morning to see if I could be the first stop on the schedule. Unfortunately they wouldn’t commit to that so I should have known problems were on the horizon.

Received a call at 10:30 stating the technician would be there between 11-12. Finally caved and called at 1:30 to see where the technician was. I was told he would be there between 2:30 – 3. At 3:40 the technician calls to let me know he is clear across town and didn’t think he’d be able to get my install done and to reschedule it. So, I call the company doing the install and tell them I need to reschedule for later in the week. The CSR tells me the soonest they could get to me would be the following week. I explained that this was unacceptable and they didn’t budge. So, I decided to call Direct TV and explain my situation. They were very helpful and worked with the regional installation company and was able to get me a 12-4 appointment on Wednesday along with $100 in credits.

My Wednesday experience was much better. Technician shows at 1:30, didn’t charge me for the pole mount (I had to bury the cable) and did a pretty good job overall with running the cable and making everything look neat and tidy (I’m a bit of a obsessive compulsive when it comes to cables)

Experience Using my Setup: A+++
This is my first experience with satellite service and all I can say is WOW. Any of you still remember seeing the picture for the first time?? (For me, it ranked right up there with the “other” first time) Boxes are pretty easy to use…I had a couple of TiVo units so I’m pretty familiar with how DVR’s work. While the interface isn’t as nice as the TiVo it’s pretty intuitive.

Anyway, I’m a happy customer….I feel like a kid at Christmas with a new toy.

Welcome aboard. You'll love it. I've been with these folks since their 3rd month on the street - through thick and thin, consumers have always ended up with better product and technology.

Now, if we could just get enough content to match. :)

Welcome to DirecTV. Now is certainly an exciting time to become a DTV customer with the new HD on the horizon.

Welcome to DBSTalk as well.

With all do respect, either your first time wasn't that good or you have one incredible picture.:eek2:

He probably has one incredible picture. I remember when living in a small town in Arkansas I had cable, before seeing the light and going to Satellite. They were telling customers if you don't like the pic because that's the best we can do. Go to Radio Shack and buy a Amplifier yourself. Needless to say cable was gone and Sat was her. That was in 1996, and I haven't look back to cable since. So yes he does have one incredible pic to give him the WOW factor. My first system was with Primestar.
