I can't record one program and watch a second...

When I go to switch, it says I need to switch channels.

What model DVR and do you have two coaxial cables connected to the back of the DVR?

If you have a HR20 or R15 with two SAT lines connected do a menu restart recorder and that should fix the problem.

It will reboot the dvr and should detect the second tuner on start up.

Juts one line.. idiot installer said he didn't have time to run a second line to that DVR. He also moaned about having to do 5 Receivers at my house and complained about the job the whole time.

DTV is coming out in a week to hook the line up and give me a new DVR.. free of charge.

OK. After the 2nd line is connected you will need to do a restart recorder like I said above so the DVR can detect the 2nd tuner.
