View Full Version : D* Installer Coming Today - Advice?
Sometime in the next few hours I should have officially made the switch from Charter to D*. Before that happens, is there any advice an experienced reader would give me for when the technician comes?
I should be getting 3 SD (non-DVR) rooms + 1 HR20 installed for the Premier Package with HD. From what I've read so far on this site it seems like I should expect a slimline dish + B-Band converter for the new HD channels. It also sounds like a new cable from the dish to the HR20 might be necessary too, correct? (In addition to the one already there for cable)
What about an HDMI cable from the box to the HD TV, will I need to supply my own? Any other advice a fellow DBS member can give me? What about questions I should ask the tech?
Thanks in advance.

Most likely you will get a SlimLine 5-LNB dish, but be sure to verify with the installer. Because of the number of Receivers and DVRs, you should also get a Zinwell WB68 multiswitch to take the dish's four outputs and provide eight outputs .... 3 for each of your Receivers and two for the HR20 HD DVR.
It's also likely that the installer will not want to use your existing Cable TV wiring. Too often signal splitters are hidden on those cables, so it's best to let the installer run new cables from the dish to the multiswitch and to each Receiver, with two cables from the multiswitch to the HR20 HD DVR.
An HDMI cable should be provided with the HR20 installation.

My HR20 came with a HDMI chord. You shouldn't have to supply one. You should also get 2 BBCs for both inputs on your HR20.

One minor change to this. It is very likely the installer WILL want to use your existing Cable TV wiring, as it is the easiest to do. If it works, great. If not, he can run all new lines. He will have to run an additional line for your HR20 anyway.
Also, yes, you should get two BBCs in the box, and those should be connected.

It might be per the install company but my guys refused to use the cable company.

i may be totally off on this...but wouldn't rg6 be more a requirement than old rg59 cable? Plus you dont know how old the cable is etc

Certainly RG6. I'm just saying that the installers get paid by the install, and it is EASIER to use the existing runs, so many of them will take the easy way out when they can. I'm not blaming them, likely it will work, so why not use it.
