It is often mentioned when someone complains about an installation that nobody ever takes to time to say they had a good experience.
Well, here I am posting proof that good installers do exist!
I live in Connecticut and have had several installers perform work over the years...some good...some very bad...one has been here three times and performed above and beyond on all three occasions. John (wish I had a last name for ya) is the type of installer that actually enjoys his job, spends the extra time to check and re-check his work and always treats me like a friend. He's also been known to install parts not on the work order...because it's what the customer needs and as he says "I like happy customers". I introduced him to this forum and I hope he reads this post.
It's nice to share some good news once in a while...thanks John.

What did he do that was so great?
First of all he did what you would expect an installer to do. He showed up on-time with the equipment I ordered. Based on the complaints I constantly read in these forums that is more than most installers do. Second he was only here to replace my HR10-250 with an HR20-700. He could have simply disconnected my old box and connected the new one. That would have been the easiest and most profitable thing to do since hey get paid by the job not by the hour. But while he was here he ran three new cables (even though it wasn't part of the work order) for me so I could move some DVRs around the house. That was enough for me.
While he waited for the HR20 to go through the start-up process he called in about his previous job. It seems his work order didn't include the Dish he needed to do the job right. They asked him to charge the customer $99 to put one up....but he did it for free knowing full well he probably wouldn't get paid for it. He figured he had three choices. Leave the customer without putting the Dish up and make them reschedule to get what they needed...or...he could charge them $99 for something they should have been getting for free...or...he could install the Dish and hope to get paid for it. He figured the last option was and I quote "the right thing to do for the customer".
As I said...I've had a lot of installers over the years and it has involved a lot of return visits from supervisors to get things right. This guy John does "what's expected" in such a way that the customer is always happy and the supervisor doesn't have to follow him around to clean-up his messes...even if it costs him a little money to do it right!
