External USB Hard Drive

Hey Everyone. Im a long time lurker and now I finally took the plunge and registered. Just wondering this question. Can you record directly to the hard drive from the 622/722 box or is the external hard drive just for transferring and archiving. In other words, say you run out of 30 hours of hd storage space on your 622, will future recordings hop on the external hard drive or will the 622 just start erasing stuff? Trying to decide if the external hard drive is worth it for me.

You can not record directly to the EHD. But, after you archive recordings to it, you can play them back directly from the EHD. Or you can copy them back to the 622/722. Its really a good deal if you are filling up the internal HDD or if you have movies you want to keep for an extended period of time.

Yeh, thats what i kinda figured. Thanks ChuckA. Im going to get a 750 gigger for 179.99. Is that a good deal by the way at best buy? Its a WD 750 GB.

I tried recording a timed event to the EHD. The receiver posted the event as a goto external HD, and when the event played, the 622 changed channels to the event that was to be recorded on the EHD. It unfortunately did not record the event. Looks like a future software upgrade.

The EXT recording option is for PocketDish and not the External HD.
