View Full Version : HR20 Lock up
When i first got my first hr20 it took me a while to get used to it vs my hr10. After using it for a few weeks i started to like it more than the tivo, so much so that we replaced all our hr10 with hr20s.
My only complaint is that these units seem to lock up often and at least once a week require a rbr to power on. Any one else having this problem?

My "twins" haven't locked up in over six months. FWIW

There could be several reasons. I wouldn't think multple units are bad in one house hold.
How many do you have? Are they all up to date software wise? You may want to check into any overheating issues.
We have 3, all with 0x17E. All have a temp between 122-125.

I would suggest looking at the signal strengths, then work your way down the cable infrastructure. Check the cables are tight, the connectors look solidly attached, the ground wires are grounded correctly, etc.
if the signal strengths are not mid 90s on most of the 101° transponders and at also on at least one transponder on 99° or 103°, that is very good. But if they are lower, that could be a problem.
Good luck,
Tom
All signal strengths are good, everything on the 90s and cables are tight, etc.
What i dont understand is why this would happen on the hr20s but not on either of our other 2 receivers.
Do you have your boxes networked? There have been some reports of networking locking up boxes.
All I can add to the conversation is that my HR20-100 has only locked up once in the three months we've had it and it was the morning after a upgrade. Good luck finding your problem.

Also... do you have both your DVRs on goood surge protectors and/or UPS's?
Boxes are not networked and all are hooked up to surge protectors.
Just happened again on one of the boxes and another one powered on but was nothing but a blank screen. A rbr fixed the problem but needless to say this is getting annoying.
I had been out of the house during a heavy rainstorm, and when I turned on the TV later that night I found the DVR had locked up with "searching for signal..." on the screen - as if the lack of sat signal had crashed the box. Had to hard reset. Is it common or a known issue for a lost satellite signal to cause a lockup?
Hey,
My sister who just got a HR20 (not sure which version though), has very frequent lockups.
She has no phone line plugged in.
What should I tell her to do? I told her to call directv and say the receiver is bad and get it replaced. Should it be locking up like this or is the hardware defective?
I have been looking through the HR20 forum, and I am shocked to see that there are still so many problems with this receiver, I thought by now all the bugs had been ironed out? It's been almost 1 year since launch...
I have a scheduled install in 10 days and now am almost regretting it, I am definitely keeping my HR10-250 (owned) running along side of the new HR20, for a while anyway.
