I am about to send the message "You're fired!!!" to my current web hosting provider and am looking for a new hosting service. Features that I am looking for: Linux hosting PHP5 support without any funky extensions. (Sorry, GoDaddy) MySQL with phpMyAdmin support IMAP SMTP with alternative ports .procmailrc or EXIM support Catch-all account SSH would be nice FTP supportIf this works out, I may be bringing over a non-profit's web site.
I tend to distrust the "Web hosting reviews" on the search because, for all I know, they could be put out by the web hosting provider themselves who operate under several names. :(

I was going to suggest Go Daddy as I have been more than thrilled with them for almost 2 years since my ISP went Bye, Bye. But based on your message Go Daddy is going to be the one getting Fired?

While I do have some issues with godaddy (no IMAP support, PHP5 support requires that you use .php5 extension), they're nothing like my current hosting provider (P4Host, which has gone down the toilet).

ThePlanet.com - but you can only get whole servers, no shared hosting. We have 3 ThePlanet servers.

Have hosted sites at rackspace for several years with no problems. There big and reliable.
I also have a site hosted here: http://www.brownrice.com/
Owned by a personal friend that will bend over backwards to make you happy. Whatever you need.

Sigh.... I just tried hostmonster tonight. That's when I discovered that they don't support a catch-all account. That's fine and dandy for 99% of the users. I'm not part of the 99%, as I use the e-mail addresses as a filter for IMAP. Sigh...
How about 1& 1 ? I see their ads in computer magazines.

We have switched to NetworkSolutions and like them very much after 2 months.

Lunarpages might work for you. You also might want to checkout Bluehost. I have used both with minimal issues. Good luck.

Mark- I have been using Host Rocket for several years now. They are not perfect but the 2-3 times a year I have to send in a trouble ticket they are on it in a flash and we're usually back fixed in less than an hour.
I needed a service that has big tubes ( Ted Stevens) I resell VOD hosting service. I never have any customer complaints about performance. Some of them have tried other's providers and they break down when the demand is more than one hit on the video at a time. They get server busy messages. I have never had a server busy error yet. But since you don't need a service that can handle multiple hits of streaming video, the thing you need to look for is up time % and how long a trouble ticket takes to be resolved. From my references, this was the problem at GoDaddy.com.

Mark, hopefully I'm not getting here too late :) Give site5.com a try. They have other plans, but if you're willing to spend now for 2 years up front, this is a tough plan to beat:
$5/month - 165GB storage, 5TB of bandwidth/month
I use SSH all of the time to get in and make modifications.
