If you have access to channel 70 and 71, do you get these as your channel description? If you have an HR20, do you see that description if you highlight the channel name and push INFO?

Also weird...ESPN2 HD, ESPN-HD, Discovery HD Theater, and both HDNETs show a ( channel # ) after the channel....Universal HD doesnt...

Is this new or am I just slow?

Yes I get the Virtual and we need to know how much staff is on for the weekend. Does Directv have additional staff on to cover the volume of calls? Then for sure something is up.

If I highlight 70 on the guide, I get HBO High Definition Channel.
If I push INFO, the heading above the program listing that says: Programs: 70 HBOH

I get the same thing.

The funny thing is if you go to 509 it doesn't say virtual. I think it says that because 70 is the Virtual channel of 509.

I do not get it on my HR20 - It just says "HBO High Definition Channel."

Guess that means nothing special for the HundredNation again this weekend. :(

I see the Virtual HBO & Showtime on channel 70 and 71 too! I guess once they "eventually" go MPEG4 they are going to shut those 2 down! Based on Swannis report tonight!

Yes I just checked this out also.
The HD HBO & SHO in the seventies are just remapped from the ones in the 500s.
Maybe this is where the D10 channels will be. :)

I am not seeing any of these descriptions on a H20-600 running an old CE (2002)

I wonder if this has to do with the engineering charge, or the new firmware.

My HR20-700 shows "HBO HD 70 (Virtual)"
My HR20-100 shows "HBOH"

Another interesting thing on the HR20-700 is when I move up from 70 HBO to my local OTA channel 64-1 WAXN, the description doesn't change. It stays "HBO HD 70 (Virtual). It doesn't change until I move up 1 more to satellite channel 64 CT64. As I move on up through the OTA channels 58-5, 58-4,58-3,58-2, and 58-1 the banner still says "Charlotte WAXN 64 Ind" It doesn't change until I get to the satellite channel 58 UNC. The HR20-100 works as it should.

Also noted, I have the "A3" before all my MPEG4 locals as well.

Yes I agree. On my old HR10-250 HBOH and SHOH in the 70s have been marked "virtual" for several years . The virtual means they are not distinct channels, but just remapped versions of the same HD channel in the 500s.

In my new HR20-700 I no longer see the "virtual" so I suspect it depends on the SW version.

In any case don't get excited about "virtual". It is old and they seem to be in the process of removing the "virtual" designation. Probably the new HD channels will require revision of the 70s HD lineup because there are too many new HD channels coming to fit them into the 70s slots. It seems to me they are going to be spread out and not all in one number series, but this is not clear.

I do note that there is a Guide option in my HR20-700 labeled "HDTV". If I select that it filters the Guide list to just all the currently active D* HD channels I get, plus my Local HD channels in one short Guide list eliminating all the SD channels. Perhaps this will be the new system for getting all the HD channels in one convenient place.

I'm with you, Don. You're right, they are remapped channels. But this fits in with an issue I'm having, posted in another thread, where setting up recordings using 70 and 71 isn't working as well as it does with the ones in the 500s.

What issue on 70 & 71 and which thread? I have only recorded used 70 & 71 thinking they were identical, so I never have compared them with the 500s versions.
