Do you beleive that we had our switch replaced yesterday it rained and guess what now my tv can't get most of the channels. Yet another cheap junk switch needs to be replaced again, they are coming tommorow and they better bring a new swich. This past couple of months we must have had the switch replaced 4 times already. Just like the second receiver I was watching tv and the signal keep going off then it stayed off with Error 002 poping up everywhere. They use junk because they are cheap and Directv uses much better equipment my friend has directv for 4 years and has not have one problem yet my friend girlfriends brother has dish and he has nothing but problems with it. I rather go back to cable, DTV then having problems with this junk switches. What keeps happening is that one reciever is affected everytime then the switch is replaced, it rains and then it happpens again.

Sounds like a D* salesman to me. I've never had any problems with E*.

Sounds to me like you have a bad installation. Water is travelling down one of the cables coming into the switch which is why it's frying everytime it rains. Is this possible, or is your switch installed inside? If it's outside, make absolutely you have drip loops before the cable connects to the switch.

Does sound like water is getting into the cable. Drip loops are no good if the water is entering above the switch. It will travel into the switch anyway. Also, it makes no difference if the switch is indoors or outdoors, if the water gets into the cable above the switch, it will get to the switch.

I have an SW64, SW42 and SW21 with no failures in over 3 years.

Mark, you sure sound right, a very bad DISH Network installer at work.

Sounds to me that - I did the right thing when i told the installer i WANT my switches inside the house ....

What is the use of them being outside anyhow ( so big deal - another hole or 2 - who cares :) ) ...At least when switch is inside and i want to rehook what goes on the switch, etc - i do not have to go outside :)

Go to RatShack and get the coax sealent. It's like $2 for a small roll. It should be with the 278-series stuff, IIRC.

Water ANYWHERE is bad--at the connectors on the switch, at the other ends, a nick in the insulation on the coax somewhere. Water will travel along the braid (capillary action) through coax and make for a very unpleasant result.

Get rid of Dish and go Directv depends on how many recievers you have...if no more than 2 then you dont need any switch....most independant installers just laugh at dish with there switches and junk, and now they have two systems (DP) the whole things a MESS! (Spit)

Sounds like the connections werent waterproofed. I put that tup sealer on my outside connections to keep the water out. Cheap easy although removng the connections later can be a bit tough.

Of course my SW64 is INSIDE,where its warm dry and cozy. D will be going going the switch route too. They will be using more space.

reddice - just to echo everyone else - your problem is NOT the Dish equipment, but rather a piss-poor installation !

You may very well need to replace every foot of outdoor coax and properly waterproof every connector, but it CAN be made trouble-free - I've had E* for over 3 years and I've NEVER had the problems you're complaining about (of course, I did most of my own as well). If you decide to switch over to D* (oh - btw - did we mention you'll probably end up paying a "break the contract" fee ?), I'd bet that installer ends up doing the same thing.

I'd also suggest replacing any section of cable that has even one drop of water in the braid. Compression (Snap n Seal) connectors and sealant should also be used. I found this thread to be a bit strange - most people who complain about Dish don't complain about cables and multiswitches. They complain about receivers, programming and software bugs.

Reddice...
NO, I do do not believe your "story".
Perhaps you may want to consider a real job that includes ethics and responsible marketing stratigies.
OR, maybe you're just you just don't know any better.

It is always the unregisted posters that have such troubles... like you really go through 4 switches in a month without the installer being replaced...
