I just ordered a 722 from att dish as a new customer. I was informed that I would need an over the air antenna for local HD which would be provided at no cost to me. However there was no guarantee I could get OTA HD channels. In her next breath she stated that if I refused the OTA antenna then no charge would be made to my account. I could not get her to clarify this confusing statement. (no cost to me vs. no charge if I refused the OTA antenna)

I live about 75 miles from Sacramento and get poor analog reception with a large antenna in my attic. If I put the antenna on a 200 foot tree, reception would be very good. Does anyone know what model OTA antenna dish offers and under the Dish install contract, how high up the installer is allowed to place it ?

Just a note (e- mail from dish)- 'Dish no longer offers a 30 trial period'. This means if you signed a contract its yours for 18 months whether you like the system/reception or not. Very poor business practice?? and what about a 3 day right of recision??

www.antennaweb.org is the best site for an antenna reference. The antenna in your attic is probably twice as good as what DISH will provide and you can totally forget 200 ft. up a tree unless you want to climb it.

regarding the 30day, that seems to be true for those who KNOW the rules. I called around and some said 30 days, when I called the ones who were contracted with dish, they said it's 72 hrs. when I chatted with dish's CSR online they said 0days. So not sure which is right or wrong.

I would try with the antenna in my attic. The digital signals work differently than analog signals and it might work fine. With analog picture quality will vary depending on the strength of the signal. With digital, picture will be good as long as you have a strong enough signal. If the signal isn't strong enough you get no picture at all.
