Better chance next year after D11 is up and added to system.

Why would you say that? There is still [spot beams]space on SW 1-2 and a lot of space on D10. Shreveports dma is 81, he "could" get them this year. But they have been skiping over some. This week they added dma 200 Mankato, MN
so you never know.

There is a potential for locals to be added too, but I'm guessing that they are not the current focus.
Next, know that Shreveport is DMA #81, so there may be a few markets that come before.
Are there more than two of the "big four" currently offered in HD in your market?

What did I say? I said there's a better chance after D11. Can't deny that.

Well I live in DMA 53 we don't have them yet. Whether it is because the red tape or just over passed I don't know. All of our locals are in HD ota. Were I live I know I can't get them though.

Same here in Pensacola dma 59. We were told last year that we would have them by the 4th Q 2006. Still no joy.

It was my understanding that they held back some of the capacity of SW 1-2 until DirecTV-10 was operational so that if D-10 blew up on the launch pad or failed its orbital tests they could put at least some of the promised national channels on SW 1-2 and save some of their reputation.
It is my understanding that SW 1-2 are very configurable in terms of mixtures of spot and national beams. D*'s preference would be to use SW 1-2 for lots of highly flexible spots, but they could light up nationals on them if need be.
So, since it looks like D-10 is fine and healthy, they should, in theory, be able to start adding more local markets to SW 1-2 now that it's clear they won't need them for national beams.
The resource limitation here, since the satellite bandwidth issue is removed, would be manpower and equipment for setting up local backhaul equipment and for negotiating with locals for permission to carry them. I have no idea what sort of resources DirecTV has in this area, or what pre-preperation they might have done to get backhauls set up, retransmission agreements in place, etc.
Anyway, it's quite possible some more local markets could come on line shortly after they get done rolling out the new national HD channels. Not a certainty, but possible.

How do you know what DMA you reside in, and when they could be activcated?
You would think ch.28 PBS in Los Angeles would be added to the line up. Such a big market and great material.

My locals are also the Shreveport stations. I don't look for any sat HD on them soon. Shreveport hasn't shown up on the list, yet.
I get the HD locals via OTA now.
BTW, have you noticed that channel 12 is a very weak HD OTA signal? That is odd because they always have had the strongest OTA signal BY FAR. Now, it is very difficult to get with the rabbit ears (the HD signal, that is).
Conversely, channel 6 -- which has always had a signal equivelent in strength to a weak ham radio signal from Mars -- has a super strong HD signal.
Very odd.

JACKSON, MS doesn't have HD Locals yet on DirecTV - and it bums me big time. Jackson, MS played a key role in the development of the satellite TV industry. NOTE:
1994:
Thomson Consumer Electronics sells first DSS system to consumer in Jackson, MS in midJune. Company, joined by DIRECTV and USSB, launch the first national advertising campaign in DTH history. Thomson ships nearly 600,000 DSS systems by year’ end, DIRECTV/USSB report about 350,000 subscribers online.

Generally D* announces the day AFTER they go live. Cedar Rapids is dma #89. Are you near there?

PBS demands that D* carry all the subchannels from each main HD channel it adds, and D* will not commit to the bandwidth.

I didnt think the CW was broadcasting in HD. Iam in the same DMA and same as you cant get them OTA.
I talked with a CSR yesterday and they have no info on locals!! I did ask why they wouldn't give us the national feeds just so we could watch the programming in HD. He said something about not owning the signal they just "reflect" it and have to have permission (waiver) to do so. He sent in the waivers but I heard hell would freeze over before they were excepted!!!!
