View Full Version : Networking my HR20 with an Airport Express

I'm kind of a networking noob, but I know a little (probably enough to get me in trouble).
I just bought an Apple Airport Express (so that I could network my HR20 and stream music from iTunes on my laptop to my stereo). I already have a wireless g network for my laptop. I set up the AE on my desktop through my router. Basically I just changed what I knew about in the setup, which was just the security basically. I added my WEP hex passphrase to the AE. I then plugged it in near my HR20 and stereo and it works flawless with music through iTunes through my stereo, but the HR20 fails.
When I try to Connect Now, I get ok for IP address and OK for Subnet mask, but default Gateway just have dashes and it says Not Connected for network and Internet.
Can anyone help me?

marlon1985Do you want to network it to the HR20 or just play music through your stereo? Do you have an Airport Extreme or another Express as your router? If not and you want to hook it up to an HR20, you need to ensure your router supports WDS. If not, it won't work. If it does, it's just a matter of getting all the settings correct. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hi Guys,
First make sure you have installed the EyeConnect Beta (link above).
Secondly, there are 2 ways to set up the AX at initial setup.
One is to use it only for "Airtunes", which allows playing music as you seem to have working right now. However this type of setup will not integrate with the HR-20.
The second is as a WDS (Wireless Distribution System). This is the setup you need to make this work with the HR-20. The "Airtunes" portion of the setup is done towards the end of setup. The WDS setup also has limitations with certain security setups.
Have you setup the AX to use WDS?
If not, you need to start over. The link below should help, but the important thing is you need to reset the AX if you don't have WDS - and start over. Unplug the AX, take a paper clip, insert it into the reset button on the AX and plug the AX in again. Hold until you see the green light flash repeatedly. The AX is now reset and you can start over. Try the link below to set up WDS.
