Anybody have any experience playing with Ipod innards? The hard drive in my 4th Generation Ipod has been dead for over a year. I decided to play with it a little today, and managed to get it open. I then managed to disconnect the hard drive, and I'm wondering if I just slipped another hard drive in, would it work?
If so, what size hard drive is that, and could I use a larger (GBs, not physical) hard drive?

Can't answer your question about the IPod, but, check out Woot.com TODAY for a 20G IPod (reman) for $99.

Thanks for the heads up. Just wish they were offering a 40 GB one!

From what I understand you should be able to replace the drive then download / run the latest updater for your model. This will reload the needed software on your drive.
I did a quick search online and came up with this article.

Exactly what type of hard drive is that? I'd love to throw a larger one into it!

You can go up to 120 GB Toshiba disk same type [$180].
Look at pictures for the type.
