Last week I was able to setup Networking between my 2 - HR20-700's and my PC. Very easy actually for a first timer, no experience neccesary.
Now here is my issue, since then I have been dropping Internet connections every hour or so and sometimes it last all day. I need to unplug modem and do the usual sequence each time. I am on Verizon DSL with 1.5 mbps speed and they have troubleshot a few times over the phone and finally sent out a new modem which is entirely another problem. Old modem is reinstalled and run thru a Netgear router to a Netgear switch in the office. Both HR20 are now uninstalled off the network and all seems good.
Thoughts?? coincidence? is it possible to have too much stuff on one modem etc.

If you're not using it for any specific device, make sure uPnP is disabled for all devices and your routers/switches.

What would be any specific device? PnP is enabled on the router. I have home security cameras that I monitor - beach house and home - I use DYNdns for the home camera DVR.
Thanks for your reply, any help appreciated!

It is possible that you have set your HR20s up with a static address while your intention was to set up of as DHCP (automatic). Go back into your network setup on the HR20s and tell it to "reset defaults." Let it check the network and see that everything is OK and then exit the screen. If you go into Advanced Setup, then you will need to leave that screen by selecting reset defaults again. If you accept the configuration that is shown then you have selected manual setup (or static IP address) which is likely not what you intended.
The reason that you want to keep it automatic is because your other PCs may pick up the same IP address as ones that were originally assigned to the HR20s. If you have two devices with the same IP number then you might have a situation where weird things happen on your network - including odd disconnections and reconnections.

Ok my issue is in setup it says I am connected to my network but I am not connected to the internet. any suggestions?
I have a Linksys WGA54G I went through the setup of the adapter all settings seem to be correct. Once I was ready I unpluged the HR20 let it sit for 10 seconds then pluged it back in. Once it was completely up and running I pluged in the adapter. I am running Vista. In MP11 I see the unknown device and noticed this morning MP11 found it in Vista. However when I go to the HR20 I don't see music and Pictures anywhere. Guess I may take this adapter back and get I am not sure what you call them but the adapers youplug into the wall.
Ok as of this morning I am connected to the internet and network. But I still don't see Music and Pictures on my HR20. But as stated above MP11 sees the Unknown Device. Do I need to have MP11 turned on in my compter to see in on the HR20?

+1
That happened to me last night....something along these lines "one or more devices are sharing the same IP address, you will see network issues."
I was perplexed, and plugged along through my networking wall. Transfer rate dropped, and the wireless network cycled through connected/disconnected.

FYI, your HR20 will report being connected to the "network" because it's receiving power through the line between your HR20 and your WGA. That's all that means.
You don't have to have Windows Media Player on to share media, just make sure that it sees the Unknown device and click ok, that should do it. It may take a little while but then Music and Photos should show up when you push Menu.

I had this problem and found my ethernet port was faulty. D* is sending a replacement out. I had different ip addresses for both of mine and an xbox360. Just a thought make sure the light is on on the ethernet port as well

This test runs and now it tells me I am connected to the internet but I still don't see any shared media in my menu. Do you think I will need Twonky?

Do you have your files set to share? Open "my pictures" and under "files and folder tasks" click on "share this folder"

This is exactly whats happening to me too. My computer doesn't see the HR20, the HR20 doesn't see My Music.
Do we need Twonky or TVersity?
I have WP11, but not a Viiv computer.
Thanks.

I did this and I still am not seeing pictures or music. Should there be a line for it in the drop down menu?
Check if a software firewall is running on your PC. I had the same symptoms, WMP could see the HR20, but no Music and Pictures menu, and found out that my Trend Micro firewall did not have the WMP ports enabled.

Have you opened WMP11, gone to Library and setup the media sharing stuff? Have you told it to share to the unknown device it finds?
It works perfectly fine on my old P4 3GHz running XP Home SP2...

My HR20 says its connected to the network and internet, however, I can't get WP11 to see it. Are there other settings we need to turn on or off?
Thanks

The HR20 should see the shared files, not so much WMP seeing the HR20. Once you use "Network setup wizard" then your computer should see the "unknown device" thats what mine shows anyways. Click on it to enable and then go to "my pictures""my music" etc and allow sharing. This way worked really easy for me....except for the losing internet part!

Still can't see the "unknown device" on my main computer. I'm looking under "my network places" then "view workgroup computers." Is this the right area to look? Its showing the other 2 computers on my network, my laptop and another desktop, I have 3 computers total on the network, along with the HR20, but only the 3 computers are showing.
I'm using the Buffalo wireless ethernet adaptor. Both my laptop and the HR20 are hooked up to this, and my laptop is working fine on it.
Any other ideas? Does the HR20 have a MAC address?
Thanks

The only thing that hung me up is that I needed to wait a little longer than I thought for the "unknown device" to show. The first time I didnt give it time, a minute or so. The next time I looked for attached devices I waited 2-3 minutes then all of sudden it showed. Other than that I am not the one to offer any router advice......ask my wife, I am banned from messing with network anymore.:sure:
