It's going to be Zero for a while still..

Define "a while".

I mean, a minute is a while...a long while actually...if you happen to be holding your breath, which we are collectively doing.

You're likely to see a signal on 103(b) for sometime before you see the channels. How long the delay will be is anyone's guess, but the time is coming sooner than later......

Your mood changes more often than anyone I know, EaglePC...just because they haven't started the HD channels, doesn't mean there's any delay in their plans to deliver it THIS MONTH.

I've taken a screenshot of your post just in case you decide to delete it when it comes time to eat crow. ;) And what do you mean by "ya all"? All that have posted in this thread, this forum? This could get costly...:D

Mr. Eagle, there are 50,000 of us that you just made this offer to.

If you are wrong, that will be $2,500,000 you will owe.

How about if we just have you write one check to a charity instead of 50,000 checks?

By the way, $2,50,000 is a very generous offer. Thank you!

Even now that you altered your offer to $25,000, that is still generous.

103(a) is known to be active and transmitting...it's loaded up with spot beams for HD locals.

103(b) is the new satellite that we're waiting to become active and stable. Yesterday there was a LOT of activity, but nothing since about 7:30pm Eastern last night. We'll have to wait to see if they "play" with us/it again today!

Honestly, you need to find something else to do besides waiting for signals and HD to appear. Look around the house and find a book to read. Or perhaps watch some of the channels that are actually on. If you consider your day a waste because of no additional HD there is something definitely wrong. I am not joking here!:)

Not necessarily so.....

I had the "searching for sat" graphic for two months until last night when I ran a signal test on (b). Got zeros, plus a frozen screen. Did a reset which ended with the "b band coverters not connected" screen. A second reset this morning returned everything to normal (searching...).

Nothing right now other than the signal strengths :)

I am about 70 miles north of NY City and am getting a 95 reading
steady on 103(b) at TP 11. The first time the readings showed up
last week I was getting a steady 97 with a dip to 87 as testing was
going on (I assume).

96% on Tuner 1. Zero on Tuner 2. I know BBCs are alright I've already switched and tested. (Also pass the Channel 499 test). Will reboot the receiver later after football.

Just ordered 2 new BBCs. Keep coming up w/ 0s on 103(b) tuners 1 and 2. Hope that will take care of it. My signals for the other sats are pretty strong, so I would assume the dish won't need to be realigned. But you never know.

I'm hitting 97 on 103b, but only on Tuner 2. Tuner 1 is at 0. However, when I check all the other sats I get nearly identical number for Tuner 1 and Tuner 2. I tried switching just the cables and not the bband converters and could achieve the opposite. 97 on Tuner 1 and 0 on Tuner 2. Anyone know why?

I had the exact same problem. Bypassed the Zinwell W68, and both tuners work fine. I didn't really need the 3rd receiver in the office, since I only watch local programming there and have OTA.

Great readings on 103b - 97/98 on both tuners. :)

I thought maybe, but I left the bbc attached to the receiver and just switched the cables. At that point the opposite tuner began working and the other went dead..Well, it's probably not the cable unless it's a LOT longer or something, and it's not either tuner and it's not either BBC. Probably not the dish. It's either the dish outputs, the multi-switch or the cables in between. My bet would be the multi-switch, or if your system is complicated, the wiring configuration. Especially if there's an older multi-switch in the system. One cable could be going through a older, non-compliant multi-switch.

So the next step would be to trace the cables back to the multi-switch. Not all that easy since they probably disappear in a wall and the multi-switch might be inaccessible.

If you can, though, identify the cables by disconnecting and labeling. A loud test tone and/or roam-phone intercom might help here. Then you might be able to move things around on the multi-switch to see if one of it's ports is bad.

Failing that, call D* and let them walk you through 100 stupid unneeded tests ("reset your box") before they agree to send out a tech.

May be a bad BBC.

I figured it out. During the upgrade to HR20-700, D* or Halstad Communication who is the sub had my local OTA's diplexed into one of the lines going to my receiver. Never was a problem in the past, but it is now! Removed it, coupled the two wires together and ran a separate wire for locals and sure enough 97 on both tuner 1 and 2. :D

So I see that you have OTA's. Is it diplexed or is there a separate line run for the OTA. I read in another thread that you cannot diplex on a 5 lnb and sure enough they were right. I have 2 Zinwell W68's with 5 DVR's and they now work perfectly. Hope this helps. It's always nice to have D* in every room! lol:

If that was from a post I made, I failed to provide all the information - it depends on where in the 'chain' your OTA is diplexed in.
See this thread if you want to get the OTA back.

I've got 4 consecutive numbers (sort of cool ;) ).

On My "-700": 96 and 97.

On my "-100": 98 and 99. :D

My "-700" has a slight cable loss issue, that I'm aware of (several barrel connectors in its lines so I could route from my multiswitch to the DVR using pre-installed wiring), but it doesn't rise to the level of me fishing new lines (as you can see, I'll take 96/97). :D

I'm about 35 miles north of New Orleans.

I have one TP that is getting 90. 103a is in the 80s' and the rest of my sats are reporting 90s' and 100. Should I be concerned? Maybe a slight adjustment is needed? Should I just wait until they fire up the HD channels and then worry?

I looked at all my other satellites and they all seem fine. Is that strange?

That can happen as 101, 110, and 119 us the Ku band frequencies that have a much wider area to get strong signal and 99 and 103 have a very narrow window of strong signal. That is why the new dishes have much better fine tuning adjustment mechanism.

If you want, you can use the adjustment videos to realign your dish: http://www.solidsignal.com/satellite/at9_install_videos.asp otherwise call DIRECTV.

Hi:
I'll make this one short. My latest readings are basically the same as everybody's. Is #22 transponder reading significant? We did NOT have it before. Secondly I called D* earlier an the CSR told me that 37 HD CH's will be added/activated next Wed 19 Sep 07!
Thnx

Not too worried about rain fade in Southern California. We've had about three inches of rain in the past 15 months. :D

Bill Im in socal and mid 70's. I ain't sweatin' it.
And you know if it rains everyone in town will go nuts, crash their cars and we'll be stuck in traffic anyway.

The readings keep changing, much more so than any other sat.

I think D* is makins adjustments, either to the transponder output, antenna aim, or data stream.

The changing numbers make it difficult to compare our signals.

I am receiving high 80's-90's on all other satellites, but still receiving all 0's on 103b. Is this an alignment problem or hardware problem?

Chances are it is hardware. Are your BBCs connected? What do you see on channel 499, the BBC test channel?

FyReo3

BBC's are connected and 499 says "searching for signal on Satellite in 2."

Interesting - Tried to run the test but received a message that I would interrupt the following program - "Signal Testing". Decided to let it do its thing.

Test your signal on 103b, tuner 2. This message should indicate that the BBC is working on tuner 2. You should see signals.

Then, repeat the test for tuner 1.

103b on tuner 2 shows all zeros too. All sats are similar to tuner 1.
Would my Off-Air antenna affect the signal?

This is territory I don't know much about because I have no OTA, but you cannot use a splitter to bring your antenna signals in because the signal from 103b is being downconverted to part of the terrestrial TV band.

And hopefully someone who knows more than I do can be more specific!:)

That is uncharted land for me also. I appreciate your help, and maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in. It will probably be something else, for I should atleast get a signal on tuner 1...... it does not have the antenna going through it.

Thanks again.

I started getting 0 signals on my HR20 (tuner2) yesterday for all sats. Restarted the receiver, and everything went back to normal.

Would my Off-Air antenna affect the signal?Only if you are feeding the off air signal over the same coax as DTV and you did not follow the information posted elsewhere on this site to connect the BBC to the coax from the dish and then connect the output side of the BBC to the OTA input on the OTA//DTV signal combiner (diplexor). Doing it this way works fine for me. (Substitute cable for OTA if you have that instead of OTA)
