View Full Version : SundayTicket HD confusion...HD games free?

when i ordered D* about a month ago (nfl promo package obviously), i specifically asked the representative if HD games were included for free with sunday ticket, only because I had seen someone post either here/sat guys/ avs forum that the had reworked their ST and SF packages. To my suprise the guy said that they were, and when I asked him to ask someone else (i told him that superfan was needed for HD in the past) he returned with the same answer.

in addition, 2 weeks later, i asked my installer (who happened to mention something about being a 5star installer-or something along those lines, seemed very knowledgable) he too said that superfan wasnt needed for HD games, saying something about how D* is reworking the way their doing all their HD-whatever that means.

so i ask, does anybody REALLY know for sure? is it mere coincidence that I'm getting this information from at least 3 separate sources? I'd love to save $100.

also, say people order superfan and it turns out its not needed. can you cancel just the superfan subscription after week 1 ?

Superfan IS indeed needed for the NFL HD games.

I also had Directv installed recently. I have been told I will get the HD games without SF. I believe it is for new subscribers only and most likely would not be the case upon renewal of ST. I'm pretty sure you have to sign up for the HD package to get the ST games in HD though.

Just for reference, when I upgraded to HD recently, I asked several times about ST in HD and was always told I needed SF.

I recently called D** to get the HR20 upgrade. I have been a subscriber for 5 years. As part of the negotiations, I was given 4 months of Premiere Package + NFL ST (NOT SuperFan) for 69.99/month. This is the current "new" customer offer, but the rep still gave it to me. See charges below:

09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx SHOWTIME HD - Charge $0.00 $0.00
09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx HBO HD - Charge $0.00 $0.00
09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx LOCALS HD - Charge $0.00 $0.00
09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx Sunday Ticket HD - Charge $0.00 $0.00
09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx HD Access $5.33 $0.32
09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx PREMIER - Charge $0.00 $0.00
09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx NFL SUNDAY TICKET - Charge $69.99 $4.20
09/04/2007 xxxxxxxxxxxx DIRECTV DVR Service $0.00 $0.00

Note that there is a seperate "Sunday Ticket HD" line item which leads me to believe that if you do not have this, you will not receive HD games. I would imagine the SuperFan add on activates this line item as well.

Maybe someone who recently added ST without SuperFan can see if the ST HD line item is included as well??

There is a separate line item listed on my services list for Superfan, which IS needed for the HD programming (games).

Man, DirecTV, why does this have to be so confusing. I guess we won't know for sure until Sunday but my programming just indicates Sunday Ticket and Sunday Ticket Superfan. It does NOT indicate Sunday Ticket HD at all. So I'm not sure if this designation is for new subs only or what. I'm going to be hot to trot if I tune in on Sunday and no NFL is in HD on the Sunday Ticket channels.

It WILL be in H/D, but only because there is a free preview of S/F for the first
week only. After that, you will need a sub to S/F. for games in H/D.

I was also told superfan wasn't required with the new subscriber deal. Has there been a final word to the situation? Or are the people saying superfan is required even for the new promo speculating?

I have seen it posted a lot that people on the Promo would get the games in HD without having Superfan. They would not get any of the other features.

If this is true then Directv is in for a big time lawsuit. Superfan is the only way I can get the games in HD and I had to subscribe. You may, as a new subscriber to Sunday Ticket, get Superfan for free but you still must have it to get the HD.

I have no intention of leaving DTV, love the channel choices and they have generally taken care of me through the years. But while ST is a great product, it has just gotten ridiculously overpriced. I end up being out of town for a few games of the teams I watch and many of the others are on MNF or SNF or even locally sometimes. If I want to watch it bad enough i'll go to the sportspub on Park and eat some wings.

Typically superfan is needed but this year D* is giving customers who get the NLF ST promo free HD Sunday Ticket games if they get HD service which you obviously did. The reason I know this, is I have a sales document from an independent dealer confirming what you were told. Existing customers are going to tell you that you need Superfan, which in your caseyou don't.

For those still trying to interpret their bill to see if they will get the ST in HD:

Go to channel 719. If you get a blank screen and you do not get a 721 - Channel not purchased then you have the games in HD.

Not a new D* sub (new ST sub though). When I ordered ST, I asked if I would get the games in HD.

and voila - I have NFL in HD glory!!!

New customers (me) are getting the games in HD without Superfan, it's part of the promo.
