View Full Version : What's up with Comcast Sportsnet Chicago HD? The picture is terrible!

Has anyone else watched Comcast Sportsnet Chicago HD, channel 640 HD, lately? I swear that whenever I watch the White Sox or Cubs at home on CSN Chicago HD, the picture is awesome, but whenever I watch them on CSN HD when they're on the road, the picture is NO better than an SD one. In fact, yesterday in the Sox game against Detroit, I flipped back and forth between CSN HD and the SD (also channel 640) feed. Both pictures looked EXACTLY the same--like crap.
Anyone else notice this?

Because it is an SD one.
It is not HD when they are away.
Sometimes, you get "widescreen", but usually it is just an SD feed.

They shouldn't advertise the game as "being delivered in Comcast HD" then!

Do they advertise it in HD? I am pretty sure they always show their list of upcoming HD broadcasts which only includes home games.

Well, I like this comment that I heard while watching the game, "You're watching on Comcast Sportsnet Chicago in HD." (or something almost exactly like that--I remember because when I heard it I laughed out loud and said, "Yeah, right."

That is something totally different.
Basically, at this point...
All the networks (WGN, WCIU, and CSN), only broadcast HOME games in HD.
On a RARE occasion an away game has been in HD, and that has been very rare at that.
Normally when it is in HD, they have the letters "HD" on the screen during the broadcast.

Oh, I can understand the home/away issue of HD. I just wish they'd be a bit clearer on that. Of course, the way my White Sox are playing this year, it's rather irrelevant anyway. :p

For what its worth, I've noticed that when there is a road game, the advertise as the broadcast "in widescreen format"; as opposed to home games advertised in HD.
I think the bigger question is why on "Sports Nite" the highlights are in SD, not HD even though the original broadcast was in HD???
