View Full Version : FSN NY HD and MSG HD ???
A lot of the recent posts as well as todays article on TV predictions.com are listing FSN NY HD and MSG HD as two of the new soon to come HD additions to D*. Does anyone really think this is true, or will we all be dissapointed again watching hockey in low-D while Cablevision keeps it all to themselves?

I'm from Missouri: "Show Me!"
But I am very hopeful that this information is true. Since the first time I saw it was from BSchneider - and since then it has come from other sources - I have a tendency to think it is accurate.
But we'll just have to wait and see....
I wonder how the heck D* got this done.
Cablevision heavily (very heavily) promotes the fact that they are the only service in the NY Metro area that has all of the sports channels in HD. There are commercials every day.
D* must have paid big $ or there's some other benefit to Cablevision.
Lovin it ... but never expected it.

I have been waiting a loooong time for MSG HD on DirecTV. People will gain a new appreciation for the Knicks "City Dancers". There is a GOD!

The following is my speculation - not based on any particular facts or inside information.
Let's presume that it is true and D* will be providing these two channels in HD sometime "soon". ;)
Why would CV reverse course? I think you already said it - $$$$$.
It's possible that they negotiated a "mutually beneficial and acceptable per subscriber rate" - something lower than CV might have originally been asking (if they were offering it at all), that was palatable to D*. Win/win situation.
The Dolans are interested in free cash flow - since they're trying to take CV back to a private (100% family owned) enterprise. The more free cash flow - the more debt that can be paid off. Having a lower rate for all those D* subscribers is better than having no rate - i.e. zero income!!!
Just follow the money - sooner or later it will usually lead you to the correct answer.
On the D* website it says that only the Rangers are in HD on MSG/FSN NY. Do the RSN search and you'll see "HD Available" only for Rangers games on those two channels. I assume that means that the Islanders, Devils, Red Bulls, Knicks, etc. aren't in HD via these two channels.
I am also crossing my fingers so we can see the Rangers in HD this season. Watching the handful of HD Rangers games on Versus or HDNet each year is pitiful.

A little dis-appointing I see here... http://sabres.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=337927
They note that all games will be on MSG-HD only on TWC??
Hopefully not true :(

I sent emails to DirecTV, MSG, the Sabres, the Buffalo News and all of the local TV stations. Either the Sabres have an exclusive contract with Time Warner or they don't know that DirecTV will be carrying MSGHD soon
I thought the MSG HD that was being added to D* was the one coming from NYC on channel 621.

I was really looking foward to more than 4 Isles games in HD this year! Hopefully, with all the other RSN's going HD on D10 I will get away feeds with NHLCI (no blackout restrictions since I am a NY tax/crime refugee here in NV).

The website has said that since the beginning of last season.

That is great news, if true. Again as has been said by many others, until I actually see it, it's tough to believe that Cablevision / Dolan will really let this happen. Hopefully we'll know for sure by early October when hockey starts.

How about an "I hate Dolan" thread? I'll start it!:D :D :D
(For those not in the know, the Dolan family owns the Rangers, and being an Islanders fan...)

I think This has a lot to do with the new majority owners of D*.
They also own the Starz Networks so I imagine this was a part of the negotiations if CV wanted to eventually have All the Starz HD channels.
You want Our HD, then give us your HD :D
I for one cant wait to See NY hockey FINALLY in HD, had cablevision a couple years back and that is the ONLY thing I miss about them

I think many Rangers fans would agree with the hating Dolan thing, as well as Knicks fans, and people who have no choice but Cablevision.

Does this include Sabres home games on MSG, which are supposedly going to be in HD starting this season?

When the first delay of the HD rollout happened, the press release noted that everything was ready to go when "issues" caused the delay. It went on to say that D* had even gone ahead and notified Zap2it to update D*'s HD programming channels/schedule. If you go to http://www.zap2it.com and set your local provider to D*, you'll see the scheduled HD programming that D* would have offered in the initial roll-out/wave of new HD channels/programming. I do see some HD events for FSN NY and MSG, but I believe it is just select HD programming D* has opted to carry for that region. I don't see a separate channel listed for these RSNs yet (see for example the Outdoor Channel, both expected to be in SD & HD). Again, we don't know for sure because then you have NESN and YES which I believe are in HD now in those regions, yes?
