When I tune into Ch 499 all I get is "Searching for signal on Satellite In 1... (771)"

Never finds anything. I guess I need to call D* and get new converters?

Also ...

Why in the world did D* build new receivers for a new technology, ready to take over the HD world.. yet we need some buggy attachments added to the back of the receiver to make all this stuff work? Why doesn't the receiver just work when you attach the cables to the back?

The searching for signal message is what you want to see.

As far as the BBC's go DirecTV did them because if you have a SWM you do use them. So if they were internal it would not work with the SWM.

Cool. I just called D* and they said the same thing .. "searching" is a good thing. Hehe.

Also, they offered me NFL ST for a couple hundred ( which i turned down ) -- seems like there's already a ton of games on throughout the week without it; that's plenty for me. However, they did sign me up for an HBO / Cine combo, buy 1 get 1 free for 3 mos. Already had HBO / SHO so basically got Cine for free for 3 mos. Wasn't totally a wasted call. ;)

Finally, I'm not totally up the lingo these days .. what's "SWM" ?

SWM=Single Wire Multi-Switch

It is not out yet. There are some of us testing them for DirecTV. If you do a search for SWM you will find a lot of information here about it.

I know it doesn't make sense to see "searching for signal" and have that be a good thing, but it was the only way they could simulate the new HD signals without the satellites being lit up. Believe me, before you know it, you'll have real signals to play with.
