The GUIDE data comes directly from Tribune Media Services. I've found that most programs are noted correctly. However, sometimes they are not.

If you've recently reset, there's a possibility that your guide data isn't complete yet. Let us know if the problem stays tomorrow.

It is almost impossible to find out who is to blame for bad guide data. We, the subs usually blame D*. D* gets the information from Tribune Media Services. Tribune Media Services gets the information from the content providers. So if the content providers do not indicate that a show will be a rerun, it will not show up as a rerun on the D* guide. TNT does not indicate rerun on anything.

If you hit the more information selection, you will find "repeat" in there, sometimes.

I don't know who is at fault, but when I put in the 'record series' for The Daily Show and the Colbert Report I always have to go in to the next week and delete ALL of the friggin reruns during the day. It is a royal pain in the A$$ to do this every week. They rerun the dang shows at least three times each day. As I say, I don't know who is at fault, but I sure wish they would designate the first showing. I know there is usually very little information available about each show each night, and that explains the problem, but it is still a pain.

Not sure which DTV receiver you have, I thought that was a bug in the H20, which I used to have. Others can comment on if that is true, I know I saw that problem myself. I recently upgraded to the HR20, so I don't know if I will see that again or not although I also thought I read in the HR20 FAQ on this site it's a problem on the HR20 as well, it at least said to always record "All" as it missed First Runs some times..

No, the Daily Show and Colbert are well-known issues which for some reason the channel will not fix - none of the shows are designated as repeats.
The quality of this information in the guide has been getting steadily worse all through the summer. DirecTV should certainly be pressing Tribune to get it fixed.

It doesn't say it on the local NBC station here either for 'Las Vegas' tonight ( and i KNOW it is a repeat)
... Hmm, come to think of it that may be why i missed ' Burn Notice' last night at 1:00a.m and had to enter it manually!

I am using the HR20, but I think the problem is with the guide information as someone else previously noted. I find that most of the time the HR20 does indeed distinguish between first run and repeat episodes if they are marked properly in the guide.

On my old rca receiver it shows me the date the show premiered on ie for MASh it would show maybe March 3, 1979. On the HR-20 all i get is a year ie 2007. Is there a way to get the Hr-20 to show a full premiere date?

I replaced my 2003-model Hughes receiver in July, and it had been showing which episodes of Leno, Letterman, and Conan that were repeats. My new HR20 does not, and it's frustrating. I wouldn't even bother recording them if I knew they were repeats. About all I have been able to do is look at the guests and see if they're familiar.

Everybody involved is to blame and they all need to get off their collective arses and do a better job. This is the era of the PVR and a PVR is only as good as the information it uses to do it's job. Obviously this is done properly for the vast majority of programming out there so there is no excuse why it can't be done for all of it.

What I don't get is why it isn't near as much a problem on a regular Tivo or ReplayTV or whatever that other one is. I know people who use both and the guide data for those two are way more accurate and have a tremendous amount of additional information about each show.

Not criticizing or defending here, but just something I noticed on my HR20s. If looking at the descriptions for Leno and Conan, for example, the first, abbreviated information screen does not indicate "repeat" or not. Pressing select on the More Info box will give a more detailed description and will (for the most part anyway) indicate a repeat as such. I wish they could include that on the first screen without having to drill down, but it is what it is.
I've also seen PLENTY of other programs that don't give that information no matter how far you drill down. It would be nice if there was some consistency, and I must admit, the best information I have seen has been on my DirecTiVos where it will list the cast, the original air date, and even some of the guest stars. Wish they were all as informative.
I also find it a little bit amazing that on those boxes where there is good description information and they also show a list of "other programs you might enjoy" or whatever it's called, most of the time it's more like reading my "To Do" list! :)
