I'm watching the Colts vs. Saints game tonight here in Indianapolis. I have an OTA, and HD DirecTV.
The satellite feed is about 4 mins. behind the OTA feed ? Why is DirecTV so far behind real time ?? Most of the first half was only behine about 5 seconds, now it's 4 mins if not longer behind.

Unfortunately, I cannot check OTA - not available to me. However, it is common for DIRECTV to be slightly behind "real time." I'm surprised that it's 4 minutes as I would expect it to be in the few seconds range. Are you certain that you are just not back in time on a DVR?

4 Minutes?
That is HIGHLY out of the ordinary....
10s is the most I have ever seen.
What receiver are you using?
I just check my OTA, and MPEG-4 versions... they are within a few seconds.

I'm in New Orleans...
The delay between WDSU-DT and the DirecTV feed is just a few seconds -- had it on 2 different TVs and it made it seem like an echo.
GO SAINTS!
Gotta upgrade that HR2...lol

Funny stuff, yeah my wife loves the DVR. We have 3 of them in the house.
Off topic, anybody else losing audio during commercials ? I have my DVR audio hooked up via optical, and when commercials come on, the audio comes and goes.

Yes, but only on Yankee games (YESHD, which is the only MPEG-4 I currently receive). Also optical hookup.

I had one audio dropout for about 5 seconds but that was it. However I was out and did not start the game until just before halftime

Especially at the beach (where slo-mo may not be a bad option, either!), and other choice locations! ;)

The audio drops usually happen when they switch content, like going to a commercial. They're probably getting the commercial feed from somewhere else and it's usually in SD/Stereo while the game was broadcast in HD/DD.

Worth mentioning:
DIRECTV's feed will always be a little behind OTA since they have to receive the OTA signal, decode it (if they can't get it straight from the local station), re-encode it, shoot it to the satellite up and down (a 44,000 mile round trip... even the speed of light isn't fast enough to make that instant).
Add to that, depending on the receiver there may be latency in decoding MPEG-4, which is more processor-intensive than MPEG-2/OTA.
HR20 receivers actually are the fastest DVRs in the DIRECTV family, especially if you haven't used trickplay since changing the channel. My HR20 is about 2-3 seconds ahead of my R10 when both are showing SD, and 1-2 seconds ahead when it's showing MPEG-4 HD.

I have an H20 receiver and if my wife watches the same thing I watch on the television in our bedroom, which is on a standard Hughes receiver, there is a slight difference in time between the two....an echo effect.

I've been wanting to post a question like this for weeks now.
I've noticed something just the opposite with my HR20 and OTA. When watching the same program via OTA and LIL the HR20 OTA signal is about 10 to 15 seconds behind the LIL signal. I would have thought that it would be just the opposite. The LIL signal display is on an older D* box (don't know the model # but it's an older non-DVR HD D* branded box).
