Update on my "Freaking out" thread: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=97606

Lost my HD NBC less than 1 hour before football game last nite.

Good news: After about 1/2 hour into the game, I finally surfed around during some commercials and saw EPSN HD (which looked great)

So, I changed the channel to 82 which is NBCE HD. :sure: So, got to see the game in HD after all.

Bad news: No HD Locals being received.

Transponders:
99(b) (SLOWWWWW) but ok

103(a): Also Slowwwww but OK

Results for signal meter: (these took almost a minute to show up)
99(b) Tuner 1: 100%
Tuner 2: 100%

103(a) Tuner 1: 97%
Tuner 2: 97%

Dish type kA, 5LNB
Tuner & All Satellites OK, except for 103(b) which Failed.

Error info: "Recorder has detected an error while confirming satellite dish setup:
- your dish type is set to 5 LNB Multi-Sat, but the recorder detected five satellites:confused:
Please fix this error to enure that your receive all channels properly...."

Am I missing something? Doesn't 5 = 5 ?

After doing some searching on the board, here's my question. Should I:

Call D to find out if it's an authorization issue for the local HD?
Do a software reset on the HR20?

Edit: I have a new slimline dish

I'm in glastonbury and WVIT HD looked like crap until about 9:15. I checked via OTA and the pic was perfect, so WVIT HD on D* was definatelly messed up. During pregame the picture was dropping in and out and pixelating like crazy.

Thanks for replying, nollchr.

Believe it or not, because I'm in Fairfield County, my local channels are NY !

When I first subscribed to D, I complained about this. I was told "That's how Nielson set it up." That's why I have very basic cable from Charter for my ACTUAL local Conn. channels.

So, guess what? There's really no news coverage in my area unless someone got shot or I-95 had another truck accident.

I'm also confused by the message you got. There is a way on DirecTV.com to re-send an authorization to your receivers. This sometimes clears up "locals" issues. Otherwise, if a menu reset doesn't do it, I would call.

A little off topic but can you get your CT locals over the air with an antenna? It's a great alternative to satellite-delivered locals and you can record them just as easily with an HR20.

Some of my Customers have had the same problem over the past week (like 20 of them)
Here's what I did: If you are using a 72.5 dish for locals use the "Repeat Satellite Setup" funtion and be sure to Indicate that the 72.5 dish is installed. If you are getting your locals Over The Air, Go to "Repeat Antenna Setup" and be sure that you enter both Zip codes for Primary and Secondary local markets. One or both of these worked for all but two of the custmers who called in.

With the LOS at my home, I can receive channel 55 in Long Island...Is that good enough? :)

I would need a tower for an antenna. I plan to look into it so I can Kiss Charter good-bye.

Thanks for the suggestion.

RESOLVED.

It was an odd problem. I received D* SD locals, but no HD locals after I unplugged & plugged in the HR-20 (it had frozen up).

Before I did anything else, I re-visited the set-up menu and now have a ton of OTA channels -- none of which have a strong enough signal. So, I'll delete them for now and get myself a BIG antenna. (Thanks for the secondary zip code tip!)

Next, I called D* to make sure I was authorized for the HD locals. I am.

Then, I kept the poor CSR on the phone while I did a software reset (I've learned not to hang up while I'm talking to a human).

The reset from the setup menu worked. Am now receiving all HD locals, including YES HD. Whew!!

Thanks, guys! I really appreciate your input.

(P.S. My DH says he's a lucky guy...I love electronics and football :D )
