Hi Guys-

I in no way am an electronics expert and would like some opinions. With my recent Directv switch I ordered the HD DVR receiver (will this be an h-20?) and programming. I am hooking up to a 6 yr old HD-Ready (4:3) TV. Obviously as an HD ready TV it will support the HD feeds (with letterboxing) however, curious whether you think the picture will be significantly improved to my eyes given the equipment I have? The TV is a rear projection 46 inch Hitachi with composite hook-ups. Will picture quality be similar to when I watch a DVD on the TV? If so, I'll be rather pleased.

Thanks in advance for any info. I hope to buy a more modern 16x9 TV in the next year and am hoping I can enjoy what I have for now.

if you order the HD-DVR you would get ether the HR20-700 or the HR20-100 model. the H20 model your referring to is the standard HD-receiver (non-dvr).

now with your set being 6 years old, you will still see a better PQ over the DVD.

Absolutely. I have a 7 year old 55" Toshiba 4:3 HD Ready, with composite, and it's still as good as anything I've seen (except, given it's age, the convergence is becoming more of an issue).

If the set is HD-ready, it must have DVI and/or Component (red/blue/green) inputs (Composite hookups are SD). My old RP Hitachi had DVI and component inputs.

Thanks guys- Also, the tech is coming to install n/w. Besides the HD-DVR receiver I 'm also getting a SD DVR receiver for my second television. From experience is there anything I should make sure the tech does (or does not do for that matter) to increase my enjoyment today or in the future? I'd hate to not pay attention and wish things had been done differently once he/she leaves. Your help on this site is great. Thank-you.

The good thing is that the HR20 should hook to your TV regardless. You can make a judgment on the quality without buying a new set just yet and when you're ready to change, the HR20 will be ready as well.

I had my terms messed up. You are correct. I have Component hookups.
