I received my New access cards yesterday with instructions etcetera... so i thought gee i got 15-20 minutes to kill and i know how to follow instructions so how tough could it be. I have 3 Sony w-60's and one sony b-65... started with the b-65 and it was smooth as silk other than the power light not coming on when it should have (possibly user error). Next off to the 1st w-60 and performed the steps as advertised and it went easily except i had NO local channels.

I thought that was weird so I went to the second w-60 and had the same experience and problem, so I called the technical support number on the sheet that came with the card which was nothing but automated support telling you how to find your access card. how to power off your receiver and hit continue on your remote (NOT HELPFUL AT ALL). So I called a csr who told me that they were having problems with Ultimate TV Boxes and this access card ... no big deal but she insisted that I do the upgrade on the 3rd box and then power them all off (I think at this point that she did something at her end but she wouldn't tell me about it) because I turned them all back on and things were not fixed.

Anyway not sure if others with Ultimate TV boxes are having problems or not but make sure you block plenty of time to do the upgrade when your access card arrives and don't bother calling the automated support unless you don't how to hit continue or power off your receiver LOL.

I changed the cards in both of my UTV boxes with no incident. The only thing is that I lost my locals on both boxes for a couple of hours. The RCA's have the access card in the fron behind a spring loaded panel. The Sony's are in the back. Dumb design by Sony IMHO.

When you do your upgrade, do it right before you go to bed, so your locals have a chance to come back up before you start recording the next day's events. If you can't wait for your locals, you can call them and they'll resend your programming package right then and your locals will come right back on.

I just did mine tonight, and because I'm a dope, I did the procedure 10 minutes before CSI was supposed to come on. Anyway, I took the steps the both of you did, and then I decided to call the 800 number on the bottom of the page that the cards came on. It was an automated system, and I had my locals back in just a few minutes.

My recommendation to other UTV owners out there... plug in the new cards and ignore the messages... call the 800 number and all will be groovy in a few minutes!

"The Sony's are in the back. Dumb design by Sony IMHO"

Sorry Karl but your information is inaccurate the Sony's access cards are in the front bottom center and very easy to acess ... actually the bad one is the sony b-65 that requires a clamp to remove the access card because the slot is too deep to pull out by hand.

Personally i saw the sony and the rca and prefer the engineering on the Sony by far.

I stand corrected. :D

The Sony is good also because they include a keyboard. I had to purchase one for my RCA's.

I preferred the black RCA over the silver Sony. I also liked the $39 price for the RCA when I bought mine as an existing sub. :)

I agree with Neil, just plug the cards in and call the 800 #. This is the fastest way if you have mult boxes, or you don't get the Upgrade Demo when you go to channel 202.

I also lost my locals when I put in my new card. Since I have New York, I stilll received the mirrors in the 380's. When I called DirecTV, they tried a rehit, but that didn't work. But, when I unplugged and then plugged back in the receiver, the locals came back. If anyone else has that problem, you may just have to do the same thing I did if you don't want to wait.
