I have DTV and got the NFL Sunday Ticket Deal, but need to get an OTA antenna so that my locals can come in HD. Anyone got ideas or leads as to where to get the most for my money without breaking the bank? I went to Best Buy yesterday abd saw a couple that they sell, but I do not know if they are good deals or not. Help?!?!?!?

I went to Circuit City and bought a nice Phillips OTA for $25. No complaints at all!

Will it display in all HD formats or autoformat?

Hi Cage,
You can use http://antennaweb.org if you like which, when you enter info, will advise you on the best type of antenna for your location.

Remember too that you don't need to purchase one of those "HDTV" antennas. Most regular ole antennas work fine. Just depends on where you are and where the broadcasting towers are.

Good luck

I haven't had any issues at all with various HD formats. Now I'm not sure what you mean by "autoformat".

First off all antennas are HDTV antennas. Go to antennaweb.org and input your zipcode and find out how far you are from the towers. You may get by with a indoor but I always recommend a outdoor. For more info on antenna reception go to

For you local OTA reception area visit

and look up your local market. As far as indoor antennas I always recommend the silver sensor.

One of the best sources of local information about OTA issues is other people in your area with the same problems. I note you list Austin, Texas;

There is a special thread on the avs forum just for you. I help many in my local area on the avs forum thread for my TV market that covers local issues in all tV markets in the country. In fact it was someone that avs local forum that first referred me here to dbstalk.com to get a D* question answered.

I bet those guys already know all the Austin area problems and solutions and will help you. There are already 133 pages of discussion on this link about the Austin area many of which discuss antennas.

Another excellent site for looking up OTA information is www.tvfool.com. It will even take into account the height above ground level your antenna will be placed. This site's information is much more current that antennaweb.org

If your house is older, you might have an aerial on the roof or in the attic. Of course you would know if it's on the roof, but you might not notice it in a nook in the attic.
