I recieved a letter from dish saying in order to prevent interruption from service that they needed to upgrade my sattelite dish. I made an appointment and someone came by. Currently I have 3 dishes on my roof. I think one is pointing to 119 the other is pointing to 121 and 110 and the other is pointing to 61.5.
I know this is a wierd setup but it works.

When they came over to do the upgrade he said that the upgrade was because dish is loosing the 121 sattelite and it needed to be pointed to a new sattelite for international channels. Is this true?

He was unable to complete the upgraded because he needed to install an new LNB and the one he had was not compatible with my sattelite and he said that I had to make a new appt to get my whole dish replaced.

During the 2nd visit a different guy came by and from the looks of it he just repointed my dish. He said he didn't know anything about no new sattelite and that dish wouldn't ever lose a sattelite.

So what's the deal and what's this upgrade about for those with international channels?

They are presently on 61.5, 148 and 121 slots , so there is a lot of duplication. By the end of the year they will all be moved to the 118.5 sat location. So you will need a new sat dish. It is about 26 " x 36 ". It picks up 118.5 ,119,110 and you can add on the lnb for 129 sat as well if you want hd.

You probably get a D1000+ or D500+. Dish is consolidating bandwidth by using a satellite at 118.7 (or simply 118) for internationals.

121 is good as dead now save for the internationals. The locals have left. Same with 105.

So, your 121/119/110/61.5 covers two of the three international birds, as well as the basic setup.

If your locals are on 61.5, expect to lose 121 and get 118, in simple terms. If you have HD and/or Sky Angel, 61.5 will surely be staying, so it's the same. If neither applies, I don't know about the 61.5er.

Mike, I question if he can get 129 if he's in New Jersey. That seems more like a satellite that serves areas to the west of New Jersey. He'd have to keep the 61.5 dish, probably, especially if HD, 61.5 locals, and/or Sky Angel are involved.

129 and 61.5 have the same HD. (There are TWO birds at 61.5, E*3 "The Broken-Winged Bird" and E*12 "Rainbow 1" [nicknames are either mine or historical]: Sky Angel and various locals in the area are on 3 and HD is mostly on 12.)

Jersey is not in the 129 coverage area - he will still need 61.5

I think that the new dish 500 + and dish 1000 + sat dishes use the dishpro plus 44 switch so he can have the 61.5 sat instead of the 129 sat . So a dish 500+ will work along with the 61.5 side sat dish and the dishpro plus 44 switch.
