I just read on other forum - something like:
"Alaska locals to be added 11/25"

Anyone knows more about this? Or is that true?

Paul,

I heard about the back-haul uplink a week back. I also knew that Dish has been trying to get Anchorage up since E*8 went on-line. I'd not heard anything about a specific date.

As to the channel range, My guess (and it's just a guess) 9075-9110 somewhere. Or even perhaps 9040-9047.

See ya

I live in Anchorage, and have not heard anything from Dish directly, I will call my installer Monday to see if he has heard anything and let you all know.

I have been waiting and waiting for this! I became a Dish sub last May and need the local link to finally sever the Cable link completely. (20 bucks a month for basic cable, 5 locals and 15 local access, what a joke. NOT LOL :( )

Ok..thanks
Suggestion: Also Call Dishnetwork yourself as well,
and try to find this out from them - when locals approx become available in Alaska,
If it is not very productive..ask to speak to some Supervisor/Manager, etc - you might get more productive answers this way.

Good luck

I checked with two local installers and called Dish Network directly. They know nothing, as I expected.

The Dish CSR suggested we stay tuned to the next Charlie Chat!!
Yea right! I'm holding my breath. LOL

I e-mailed Dish this morning about locals in Alaska, the following is their response.......................................... ...

Thank you for your e-mail. We realize that DISH Network does not currently offer local channels in your area. We offer locals from 52 markets now. At the launch of our last satellite, Echo VIII, we announced plans to provide local networks from 26 more markets. Through the successful launch of Echo VII, our seventh satellite on 02/21/02 and Echo VIII launched on 8/22/02, we plan to be able to provide 30 more...a total of more than 90 markets for local networks! Therefore, we are confident that you will see your city's locals available in the near future.

It is our intent to add a variety of programming and services to please current and future subscribers. We will forward your request to our Programming Department for consideration. Our Programming Department is currently negotiating with several affiliates around the country for rebroadcast rights. Certainly, we have placed a priority on cities which our competition offers (or has announced plans to offer) and have had encouraging talks in several key cities. However, due to the sensitive nature of our business and our negotiations, we are not at liberty to discuss the details of this issue with the public at this time. We appreciate your request and hope to be able to offer your local networks in compliance with FCC regulations. For more information regarding the SHVIA legislation, please visit the FCC Website at www.fcc.gov.

Your input is valuable as we continually review our options in order to provide a compelling lineup for our viewers. Please stay tuned to the monthly Consumer Charlie Chat (channel 101) and to our website's Press Releases page here.

Unless you have received information from one of these two sources, it cannot be confirmed. Either will provide the latest programming package additions as the information comes available. These are the same sources our representatives use to update their information! Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and confusion caused by this issue.

Your business is greatly appreciated and we thank you for allowing us to be of assistance to you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please refer to www.dishnetwork.com or reply to this email.

Dish has a spot sitting on Alaska, so it is not a capacity issue, it is an issue with the local stations. The spot will just sit empty until Dish comes to terms with the local stations.

Calling and complaining to the local stations about them not signing up with Dish probably the better thing to do than to complaining to Dish.

The Dish spot is not going anywhere, it just will sit empty until the stations agree.
