HD Extra Pack Tier:

http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6478005.html

"Gringeri confirmed there will be a tier of HD-only services, but said it is still being determined what channels will be included.

It also suggests that the 19th is not the official release date.... geezus... more drama!

Yeah, I saw that. Get off the hedges DirecTV... Your CSRs are being trained to say Sept. 19th now, shouldn't corporate be saying the same thing.

Checking my online acct info and yesterday a HD ACCESS fee was added and then taken off. I assume Directv is getting the HD stuff ready.
I bet it goes online before the week end is out. The big party at the Emmys and all hyping HD.

Anyone care to wager a guess as to what "legacy equipment" is? An H10? If so and these stations are MPEG-4, how will an H10 be able to receive them?

Will all HR-20 owners be forced to pay an additional $4.99 to get the stand alone HD channels they get now for $9.99 (Universal, HD net, etc)?

This statement raises more questions than it answers.

Legacy equipment is probably anything that isn't mpeg4 capable. An H10 isn't mpeg4 capable.

I don't get it. Does this article state that there will be a "unique HD" package for $5 that includes the HD-only channels like HD Net, Universal HD, etc that is in addition to the $10/mo we are already paying? So in order to get all of the HD channels, you'll have to pay both the $5/mo for the "unique" HD channels, and then $10/mo will be for the HD channels that come with your base package (choice, etc). ???

I don't think Gringeri knows what it is.

I'll be pissed if they want to charge ANOTHER $5 over and above the $10 charge we pay now. If this happens they'll be getting a call from me, but I'll wait and see what happens first.

Ever since HDnet took off reruns of Hogans Heroes earlier this week, the "Premier Tier" won't appear on my bill anytime soon. :LOL

(Actually, I have to believe if you got the channels now you'll still get them for the same price. But come upgrade/contract renewal you'll have a $5 choice to make)

You would think that with two week (or less (or more)) before HD rollout, Directv would have a better handle on what you will pay.

It seemed to say "for new customers".

Maybe it isn't an avatar. Maybe it's Venice in drag. Or maybe it's Venice NOT in drag?

On their new "HD website" under faqs it says HD programming will be at the $9.99 we have been paying forever.

It seemed to say "for new customers".Yeah, most of the posters seem to have missed that part:

"The memo said there would be a tier of “unique HD services” -- HDNet, HDNet Movies, Universal HD, MHD, MGM HD and Smithsonian HD, which don’t have companion standard-definition services – that would be called DirecTV HD Extra Pack. The memo put its pricing for that tier at $4.99 a month for new subscribers"

You must already know who it is or you wouldn't have posted this! :p

Just so I'm on topic and so this post won't get deleted, I had to call D* today and I ended up speaking to a retention CSR and she confirmed not only the HD only tier but..... the 19th as THE date that they'll turn up the first wave of channels. She said there are not going to be any channels turned on this weekend. Take with grain of salt. She also ran through a list of channels from the first wave that were basically what has been posted all over these boards.
