View Full Version : HR20 Nearly Got Me Lynched
Last night I had a bunch of buddies over to watch the Maryland vs. West Virginia game (I live in WV). We were going to do some grilling before the game so I setup the HR20 to record the game. By the time we finished eating we started the game about 1 hour into it. At about the 1 hour and 28 minute mark a message pops up asking if i wanted to delete the recording?!? WTF?!? For some reason the recording had stopped. I thought no problem. It should be in the buffer. I'll just rewind to the part where it stopped recording. No luck. Because the HR20 doesn't have dual buffers it had buffered the channel on the other tuner. Lost about 5 minutes of game time. If looks could kill. I thought for sure I was going to be beaten to a bloody pulp.
This is the first time i've had this happen. But between this and the CIR not working I just don't think I have confidence in the HR20 to record properly. I'm seriously thinking about going back to the HD Tivo. It may not have access to all the new HD content but it is at the least a reliable DVR. At a minimum i'll probably setup the recordings on both as a backup.

Don't give up your HD. The moral is: When in a situation like that, ALWAYS check early to verify that your recording is working. And always extend a sporting event.
And like you, I'd like to know if anyone else has had a recording just end like that -- hasn't happened here.

I feel your pain... back about a year ago I wanted to show off my fancy-schmancy new HD receiver and invited two chums from Boston to watch the Patriots game. Never mind it wasn't the HR20's fault, it was very cold and the HD equipment in the on-site truck had problems. It was a national issue but my HR20 (and I) took the blame.

Similar situation for me, except the lynching came from my wife:eek2:.
I was watching the Maryand / WVU game and recording BB8 on the other tuner for the lady. Just had the HR20 installed yesterday, so this was the very first recording on the unit. At some point, we switched over to watch the recorded BB8 (I knew the game would be buffered). Watched about 15 mins and started to get broken audio and pixelation, then it simply stopped and asked if wanted to keep or delete the recording...WOW, she was MAD...
Come to find out I had lost signal during the recording which caused this. When I switched back to live TV, some channels would play and others would not. Within a few minutes, I had lost signal on all sats. HOWEVER, my trusty DVR40 upstairs was chugging along with full signal on all sats (same dish, same switch). After rebooting the HR20, all was normal again. There's actually a discussion about the signal loss issue here:

I'm curious is it a -100 or -700 and how old is it?

Didn't someone just post a workaround for this very problem?
EDIT: Would this (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=97634) be a solution to that probelm?

Some bothers like lynchin'... but I just watch 'em hang!
So on, and so on... Why don't you let me roll on...
I remember back in the days when I used to have to get my stroll on...
