It occurs to me that while I am happy the HD nets are coming, I won't be actually watching much on them, at least until SciFi and USA come online. And as for DOD, well, I have a DVR, so while its cool, I'm not that excited about it either. It seems like everyone is shaking with anticipation, like when the new channels come online the customer base will look like Scanners.
Now, if you said that CIR would be activated "sometime this month" then I could see where I'd be joining all of you there...:D

Sorry you don't get to enjoy the excitement. I for one can't wait for on demand, and the new HD channels. More sports in HD is what I'm anticipating the most.

I wish I had VOD/DOD to help pass the time waiting for the new HD, but it looks like that won't happen for us HR20-100 users anytime soon. Another weekend and another CE release for the 700, but nothing for us 100 users.

How do you know if you have a 700 or a 100? What's the difference?
They are made by two different manufacturers so there are some differences. You can tell by looking at the label on the back, on the label behind the access card door or on the Info screen.
700 is made by pace and the 100 is made by rca. 700 is deep into the CE program 100 gets far fewer downloads and so far has not been in the VOD part at all. Physically they are almost identical, 100 has 2 ethernet ports and a coax digital audio out. check in the info screen or under the access card door the sticker will tell you which version you have.

Well, I was looking at as, MAN I can't wait for on demand, but then I started thinking of how much I might actually USE it. If I want a movie, I want it in HD, so HBO is the only option for me. If I want to see an episode of a show, well, I probably have a couple waiting on the DVR to be seen anyway. As for other shows, I have an extensive DVD collection, so I don't think I'd have much time to use DOD beyond the cool shiny new thing factor.
I too am anticipating more sports in HD, but the NHL season is a few weeks away, so I am at a loss until then. I loved watching the MLL in HD on ESPN2 this summer, but we are between lacrosse and hockey, so aside from the occasional MLS game on HDNET or ESPN2, I'm just in an holding pattern...

Ditto. It will be VERY nice to have FX, USA and SciFi in HD, but with the exception of TBS-HD, I really won't watch many of the new channels supposedly coming on-line in the first wave. Still, its fun to watch the choices grow...

I take it you aren't much of a football fan. For us college and NFL fans, this is the time of the year we have been waiting for all year. Not only do we get football back, but we get a plethora of new HD options on Directv. Exciting times for us.

Why is that? Do you have HBO only?
While it is true that today only HBO and Showtime are in HD, Cinemax and Starz are launching HD channels in the first two waves of the D* HD expansion. That will give you a vastly expanded list of movies to choose from (assuming you have the premium services.)

DOD comes into play for those show episodes you didn't have a chance to schedule on your DVR. It's a "second chance" to see programs you otherwise would have to wait months or years to see again.

DOD is a great venue for those "niche" sports such as lacrosse... again, you'll be able to see them anytime, even if you missed the original airing. Being able to record and keep them to view again is an extra added bonus.

We all love to get something new and shiny. Then we play with it. Its no longer so new and shiny...and the excitement slowly fades away.:(

I can't believe the level of blathering over the number of new HD channels. And VOD/DOD? If I really want content, I own it (movies and shows, not sports). How much can you watch? I looked over the list they have posted on Directv, and except for Starz and Cinemax, which I have but almost never watch, most of those channels are a real yawn, at least when it comes to HD.
