View Full Version : DISH down under?
While checking out the latest Aussie Rules Footy results, I cam across a rather interesting click on ad on http://www.realfooty.com.au. In the upper right of the page was an advertisement for DISH Network. Considering DISH does not serve Australia, could this be some agreement with Setanta Sports? Fairfax, which is one of the larger media outlets (Sydney Morning Herald, Melbourne Age), as far as I know has no vested interest in DISH. This makes for some interesting conversation, if nothing else. Makes one wonder if this ad actually is being displayed to those who access the Real Footy site in Oz.
Oh yeah, the Aussie Rules final rounds are in full swing with the Premiership Grand Final slated for two weeks from tonight (Saturday Afternoon for those in Oz).

There is something very simple, whereby websites can determine geographical region your web-click is coming from based on your IP address and present you with an advertisement appropriate for your region. I must have seen tons of NFL or some-such related ads on cricinfo.com. I'm sure none of the users based in India going to cricinfo.com give 2 bits about NFL and don't see those ads. In fact, I have checked cricinfo.com from both USA and India and seen American targeted ads only when I browsed it from USA.
And no, I don't wish to click on that website right now simply because I don't want to find out the result. My DVR just got finished recording Collingwood vs. West Coast Eagles and I'll check it out tomorrow morning at my leisure.

I get local ads all the time from my dial-up isp. Usually they all are Cleveland based ads however the last one was for a Chicago home finder. I bet something was coded wrong (or the Chicago company that placed the ad might think everyone in Cleveland wants to leave here for the windy city).
Actually, my original post was more to elicit humor than anything else.
