I am getting a 60" sony XBR TV this week and would like to add an HD decoder and OTA. Right now, I do not see myself adding a dish 6000 model. It is too expensive and I have already six receivers on my account and can't replace none of them.

Maybe I can get OTA HD until the 921 comes out. I live in NYC. Is there are any forum members that are getting OTA HD reception in this area? How is the signal? What type of antenna are you using? If you are using a different decoder than the 6000 which one is it?

I have an idea of what to get but I would like to know the experience of other members within this area. Thank you.

There are lots of articles about it, but most HDtv in NYC went off the air when the WTC collapsed. They are working on building a new tower, possibly in NJ.

Go to your favorite station's web site to check their HDTV status.

Mike123abc,

I found that channels such as cbs, fox, pbs are currently transmitting HD. Also, from CT is possible to get upn and abc. I will refine my question. Is there any one in nyc who is getting a good or excellent signal from these stations? cbs, fox and pbs are transmitting from manhattan. I did do a search on this subject (I believe) but found that a lot of comments about other places and not nyc.

For what is worth, I put up an UHF winegard antenna with a pre-amplifier (I am using the E* 6000 receiver). So far I have only been able to pick cbs, fox, and wwor. Pbs channel 61 is not picking up anywhere I locate the antenna and I am not getting anything from CT. The cbs hd ota looks as good as the hd signal from E*. The fox widescreen enhanced signal is better than the regular digital signal but is no comparison to the cbs hd. I wish fox will realize that they are not transmitting true hd. I will try to do more tweaking to see if I can get anything else but so far this is what I got from the bronx in nyc between the whitestone and throgs neck bridge...If there is anyone out there that can use the information or have any other information let me know... thanks.

Note that the site doesn't mention that WPIX is now online (with multiple mirrrors of numbers). Apparently broadcasting HDTV signals (so far I only caught upconverted programs), and in two languages (I didn't know they could do that and still broadcast 1080i).

NBC and ABC are STILL not up. Unless you get a REALLY big antenna and aim it at Philly, it could be a while.....

WPIX - WB is currently transmitting the following programs on HD: Everwood, Smallville and Reba. They had stated that they will be transmitting Mets Home games in HD as well. The HD program schedule for the Mets games is not out yet.
