View Full Version : Will no other remote work with the HR20?

I've got half a dozen remotes from various devices (TV, VCR, DVR, DVD), all with the capability to control at least some satellite receivers, and none of them work with the HR20. All worked with the DTC210. Can't find a code is the basic problem. It's an HR20-700.

So far the only oem remotes with a code for the current line of directv receiver are only made UEI, the same company that makes the white remotes. The code usual is SAT 1377 or 01377.

Ok, thanks. Picked up 2 more RC64R's on Ebay. Having only one is a divorce waiting to happen ;)

Harmony 880 (and other models) work fine with the HR20.

I received a Harmony 670 for Father's Day and I'm very happy with it.

Harmony 880 - best remote EVER. So easy to program AND change when you replace equipment. Makes changes to equipment transparent to your home "users". First one my wife would ever use!!

Any universal/programmable remote will work just fine.
Harmony series.
MX series.
Etc.

However, if you have a "cheap" universal that relies on codes then you'll need to get one that has a code for the HR20. Seeing as it's pretty new still, older ones probably don't have a code. And they probably can't be updated either. Just an FYI.

www.remotecentral.com is *THE* place to go for remotes and codes. If you aren't sure a remote has a code for the HR20 then check there.

If it's a learnable/programmable remote then you should be just fine no matter how old it is.

I have a harmony 720 that seemed to be a product for Costco only. Anyway, it works flawlessly with my HR20

I cannot get my Harmony 659 to recognize the HR20 remote. The online setup keeps saying HR20 is incorrect. Do I need to get a newer Harmony?

URC model MX-850 works great for me. The computer programmable features allow for extended macros, etc.

i just picked up a harmony 550 for super cheap on 1saleaday.com and it, too, works like a champ. aside from having to relearn where my buttons are, it actually works better, AFAICT, as button 'bounce' is now a thing of the past.

Another vote for the Harmony 880/890 Series. Works perfectly with the HR20 (and the myriad of other devices in my HT setup). I have the 890 (with RF) so I can have the equipment hidden in a closet. The best part is that I "introduced" it to my wife on my old "system" (a TV and a a/v receiver) so she got used to it; then, when I added a giant plasma, DirecTV, PS3, DVD, etc., etc., she knew how it worked, was not overwhelmed, and the transition was seemless because she was already familiar with the single device that controls it all. The Harmony 890 is a godsend.

no standard regular universal remote will work with the HR20. You have to get a Harmony or a remote similar to that to control the HR20...

Any remote with learning capability will work with a DIRECTV receiver. In the bedroom I use a 1997-vintage Sony RM-AV2000.

So you're able to use the RF of the 890 to control the HR20? Or are you using the RF receiver and the IR blasters?

I'm using the Harmony RF Receivers and the IR Blasters for the time being. I haven't yet tried out using the native RF function of the HR20. I'm highly doubtful that it will work, but will definitely post here if it does!

The $10 radio shack 15-2200 universal remote has preset code that will control the hr20. Many different universal remotes have preset codes for the hr20.

Its the oem remotes that don't have preset codes, unless its made by UEI.

Kind of off topic, but not really... Does the RC24 have a code to control a Hughes HDVR2? I can't find one that works in the on screen menus.

Yes, 3 of them 01442, 01142, or you get partial control using code 20618 on either AV1 or AV2 device.

Harmony! I've got the 670 and it's awesome. Very easy to program and MUCH easier than having 14 remotes on the coffee table. My wife really loves being able to hit one button and everything turns on just the way it's supposed to. The 670 is only $70 or so.

Or you could go the JP1 route and have a remote that will work with anything that has an IR port. Of course, you have to build the command file yourself, but you do get it the way you want without spending much money.
