Is there an easy channel guide for the channels that broadcast in DD 5.1? I am new to Dish and recently purchased an optical cable to go between the sat. receiver and my audio receiver. The few channels I checked still sound crappy (like all the music channels). What is a good channel to test my setups?
The only guide I have found that does show some DD 5.1 listings (but not all) is for HDTV from HDTVGALAXY.com (under the 'what's on tab'). Note, none of the HBO-HD shows are listed as DD 5.1, but a lot of them are broadcast in DD 5.1. I am not sure if the SD version (eg Channel 300 HBO) are also broadcast in 5.1.
For instances, Sopranos are broadcast in 5.1 (at least on the HD channel). Once thing to note about this show, it starts out in 2.0 for the introduction, and doesn't switch over until the 'new' portion of the show starts to broadcast. This would be a good show to 'test' your set up. Most of the movies are 2.0, but some are broadcast in 5.1. The SHO-HD movies are listed in the directory, again, I am not sure if the SD version is 5.1 also.
If you have an HD OTA STB, some of the ABC shows are 5.1, none of the CBS's are, and I don't think NBC's are as well.
I know this is not much help, but there is not a whole lot of DD5.1 out there, . . . yet. In our set up, everything is automatically sensed. If a DD 2.0 signal is received, our receiver automatically goes into PLII 'movie' mode. If DD 5.1 is being broadcast, it will switch over. When we watch music shows, we usually switch manually to PLII 'music' mode. Hopefully your receiver will automatically sense as well and provide you with an indication that 5.1 is being received.
Enjoy! :)
