View Full Version : Does slimline produce a better signal than big 5lnb?

I have the 5lnb with more of a circular dish. I was told the slimline produces a better signal. Is that true? I was supposed to get my signals tweaked today, but the guy said they were good enough. He said if I wanted to get a better signal, I should call D* and complain. Any truth to that?

If they are, I'm not see it. I had my "MOVERS" program install back in March. And Just last week another installer came over to install my second HR20-700 (I wasn't home). Wife said he didn't even check the dish outside.

My tp 11 103b is at 80, after I tweaked it myself. Up from 73 earlier.

The older AT9 dish and the Slimline are just about equal in their ability to pull the signal from the sats. I have an AT9 and it performs like a champ. I believe that the AT9 has a slightly bigger reflector than the Slimline, but in terms of signal strengths the differences between the two are completely negligible. Either is a great dish to have.

Just curious, what signal strengths are you getting right now?

My slimline is showing between 96 and 98 on TP11 103b...

MLock, did you have a different dish before? Or have you always had the slimline?

The AT-9 sidecar is taller and narrower than the AU-9 Slimline. The AT-9 actually has more square inches of surface area than the AU-9. Reality if they are aimed correctly they will be virtually identical on the same receivers with the same cabling. The biggest problem is all the "professionals" that aren't well trained by D* HSP's and all the ametuer "professionals" that can tune these dishes without correct tuning meters and very little understanding of what they are doing.

purtman: no. But I did have a really, really good installer. This thing is aimed so well my signals were still in the low 70s during an absolutely torrential storm.

Thanks to all of you. We're painting our house. When I go up to do the chimney, I can try adjusting it. I'll have to have my wife sit in front of the TV to make sure it's good. Otherwise, I'll need a good bird dog. Any suggestions and costs? Thanks!
