My father-in-law has a 3000 E* system and has forgotten the 4 digit lock code. The one that allows you to make system changes. Is there any way around this? Maybe to reset the receiver back to factory default or something  Any information would be appreciated Thanks in advance :)

I believe they will release that info to the individual whose name appears on the bill. They will probably ask several identifying questions.

Yup, what Geronimo says. I had the same thing happen and had to do everyhing but a urine test to get my receiver unlocked ;)
Mine wasn't a release of information tho--at least not to me. They sent out a command to unlock that can take from 10 minutes ot 24 hours to actually hit your box.
Moral: your father-in-law is stuck calling a CSR.

I don't know if this would work, never tried it myself, but it has a better chance of working then a normal return to factory setting command. I doubt it will reset the locks setting, but give it a try.

Sometimes a phone call works

Thanks everyone for the quick responces to my question. I'll give the reset that Steve recomended, and I guess if that doesn't work my father-in-law will have to make a call to E* and see what they can do. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving !!!

Going back to factory defaults will not clear out the ppv lock code, if it could do that then we would have some problems with people doing this to get into ppv's and so forth such as children and company ordering things they shouldnt be and running up the bill.
I think channel 100 should be included in the ppv lock, or at least the part where you can order channels. I know that you can lock channel 100 but if one does not know that, it may be too late, and I think there should at least be a reminder to the customers of what is on channel 100 and what can be done. This could actually be worse than the ppv ordering running up a bill.

I'll be damned. I thought for sure it was just a thing with an unlocked box, but mine do it, too. I went thru the whole process (phone line unplugged, of course ;)) hoping for a password box, but nothing.
Unless it wants a password *after* dialing (like billing), with the two-month proate, your <insert relevant Dish watcher here> could order Playboy and you could get a bill for about $50 more for one channel next month.
What are the chances this will be fixed in an upcoming software release? :)
