My family just got a new HP 1500+ laptop, I love it. It has DVD/CD-RW combo drive, this will come in handy when we drive to Florida for Christmas, my daughter will be able to watch movies on the road and I will be able to continue with my DBSTALK and DBSFORUMS addictions when we get their. The best thing is I can sit in the comfort of my chair while watching satellite tv and surfing the internet at the same time. Life is good.

Don't forget about how hot that battery can get in your lap! :eek2:

;)

Glad you are enjoying it. :)

I see a lawsuit coming. Is there a warning label on that new laptop telling you to not hold it on your lap? How about not operating while driving? I see a class action on the way.

Don't forget the Asbestos Underwear (see other thread in this section) :D Congrats...

If you have cable modem or DSL, getting a Router with Wireless Access Point and a Wireless network card

Wireless Router $94
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005ARK3/

Wireless Card $57
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000056SSM/

Then you can go anywhere in the house or outside with the laptop.

I actually hold the laptop on the armrest of my chair. No danger of burning private parts there. :D

Congrats on the new notebook. I found the perfect NB companion - a travel "desk" with a snap-on/off bean-type cushion that comfortably supports the NB on my legs and keeps it off my manhood. A totally unintended use, I'm sure. The cushion snaps are around the tray's circumfrence so they help route RJ11 and power cord.

$10-15 @ Target and elsewhere in the auto accessories dept. Desk is lightweight and sturdy.

Last summer when we went on vacation, we traveled from Texas to California and stopped at several sites along the way. I was without a computer for 4 days. My hands started shaking and I broke out in a sweat from time to time. Luckily my family had a computer at their place so my addiction was satisfied when we got to our destination.

I think the internet is worse than smoking. :)

Remember to get an adapter to run the notebook from the car's cigarette lighter. My notebook (Toshiba 2805-S402) battery gives out way before a single DVD is complete! Nothing more frustrating, even if I do have two spare batteries.

They will probably have some kind of foil thing wrapped in rubber or something to shield back the heat, some kind of heat shield or something, at least for the battery.
