View Full Version : TWO HR20's locking up!!

Beginning this afternoon, both of my hr20's have decided to lock up. I reset them, and viola, it happens again.

The video freezes, the audio continues and the units become unresponsive to remote commands and the buttons on the front.

I have a hard time believing that this is a hardware problem, as it happened to two units SIMULTANEOUSLY, especially since I got one on Sat as a replacement for another one that went belly up!

HELP

Do you have the network connected to the boxes?
If so... what devices are on your network?

I have both HR20's using cat5 to the same wireless router, along with my desktop machine. The wireless router also connects to my printer and (sometimes) my laptop.

Based on your (implied) suggestion, I have removed the ethernet cables from the HR20's.

Why would this be causing such a problem? (I have also noted that often I have to power cycle the printer, as the networking fails)

uPnP devices for one...

Something happens on the network, and the HR20 isn't handling it properly (hence why both at the same time).

So whats the solution? Is it the printer (HP Deskjet 8900)? Desktop? Laptop?

Don't know..
At this point, it could be a case of trial and error, to find the device that is freeking it out.

If you are not using the Network connection on the HR20's... I would leave them off for now.

As future versions of the HR20 software, is going to have some focus on the networking features.

I did enjoy the music and pictures, but if that what is causing the problem, that is certainly not worth it.

I thank you for your help, oh great DirecTV guru!

Should I just wait for the next software release to reinsert the ethernet cables?

Unless you want to try one of the next CE versions.... that would be the only other option..

Eric,

That might not be a bad idea. They have been working on fixing this issue.

I experienced the same "freezing" problem (1 HR20) when my network was down. I reset the router and VOIP device, and all was well again.

Good luck.

Any news on when the -100's' will get new software so I can try the network again?

-100's will get their software update, after the -700 complete's its CE cycle and goes national.

So yes, the -100 will get an update, but no date is set.

Would this be another "soon?"

Ok, have had HR20 700 for two days now with multiple reboots. Do I need to do 02468 each time I reset?

Absolutly not...

02468 only downloads the software to your system. again. Once you have the software version in the stream... you basically are downloading the EXACT samet hing again and again, until there is a new one.

Why are you rebooting multiple times ?

Thanks Earl! I have been having the "common" picture freezing, etc. where you basically cannot do anything. Has been at least 10 times on Sat. and Sunday. I have done the 02468 Saturday afternoon, and a Menu Reset later in the evening. Was fine during the day yesterday, but started acting up again last evening. I am looking for anything at this point! I went out and bought a UPS at lunch today also.
