Get this, when I had my dish installed a month ago I could not get the regular HD channels at all, no signal on the meter. I was concerned about the trees before he even started the install and he reassured me they were not going to be a problem. The tech told me the HR20 had to download the updated firmware to fix the HD channels. He started the download, told me to wait for it to finish, all would be fine and took off. I got his number before he left. I highly doubted the firmware was the problem. Low and behold the updated firmware didn't fix my lack of HD channels. I called him and he came back in about an hour, went up on the roof and changed out the LNB, swearing that was the problem, still no dice. Then he finally said the trees were in the way. Luckily for me I have access to a tree truck and chipper at work and took care of the tree problem. Ding! HD channels.
So here is the good part. In anticipation of the HD channels I was checking my signal strength on the 103b sat. I had levels in the mid 60's and the other sats were in the mid 80's to low 90's, except the 99b, that's another post. So being one who always has to fine tune things I head up on the roof to see if I could peak the levels, knowing I have a clear view of the entire southwestern sky. First thing I noticed is the LNB was installed with one bolt and no nut on that bolt. So I get another bolt and two nuts and secure that. Now my levels are even worse, understandably. So I go to adjust the fine azimuth and the lock down bolts are loose, shocker!!..... not. The elevation bolts were locked down though. SO the happy ending is I now have excellent signals mid 90's plus, on all the sats (except 99b) and all is well. The installer was nice although you could defiantly tell he was rushing to get the job done.
Lets go with the new HD channels!!!!
