I was just wondering if this new satellite will help any of us who don't have any locals whatsoever as part of their D* Subscription? I live in a city of over 60,000 people and live a little over an hour from Memphis, but can't receive Memphis locals with my zip code, and didn't know if this new satellite could help this happen? The reason why I ask, is because I've checked zip codes from cities about 10-15 miles away from here, and they get Memphis locals, which puzzles me since these are tiny cities of only like 500 people. Thanks for your responses, and have a nice day.:)

The size of the town has nothing to do with it's ability to be in a larger DMA...

However, yes, you will be happy to know that while D10 is mostly for HD, it will support DirecTV's upcoming SD-LIL expansion. As to whether or not your DMA will be included, I don't know...

Will DirecTV someday do SD to every market pretty much, or will they not go much further than they have?

My understanding is they plan to do all 210 DMA's in HD.

Good grief. Seriously. Wow. By what year? :)

Another question: When they finally add your locals, do you lose your Distant Networks, if you have them grandfathered from 10 years ago?

They will supposedly have capacity for 1500 HD local channels eventually when the next sat goes up at the end of the year/beginning of next year. Divide that by 210 DMA's and you get 7 or 8 HD channels per DMA. Now that's just sat capacity. It takes a lot of work, both technical and contract-wise, to get new stations up, so who knows how long that will take.

I've started seeing cities that have their locals as listed as being available in October with use of the H20 or HR20. These are cities that have no locals at all currently. :eek2:

Could the fact that they have an ABC affiliate up here be one of the reasons why they haven't added any Memphis Locals? Could that be an obstacle in adding the Memphis Locals? I was told by the D* installer that the Memphis and Little Rock DMA were fighting over this section of Arkansas over the advertising dollars and didn't know if this could be true or not?
