View Full Version : Dish 6000 Oddity

I had the family over for Thanksgiving and they wanted to watch football, so I tuned my Dish 6000 OTA tuner to our local CBS and was suprised that the Analog had no channel, in flipping through all the analog channels I was getting no sound from any of them.
I am lucky and my local CBS is broadcasting in Digital so I switched it to the Digital Channel and got sound.
The same went for all the other analog stations received by my 8VSB tuner cartridge, however all the channels in Digital (Over the air or via satellite) had sound.
Anyone else have this problem? How do you correct it?

Are you outputting via RF cable for analog stations?

No I am outputting via component for everything for my 6000.

OTA via component. Now that is a new one. I have discovered wierdness on this, while S-Vid restores all OTA channels. I have a feeling this is Macro Vision hard at work in component HD mode.
I have never experienced this particular anamoly (if I understand you there was no audio on analog OTAs via the 8VSB). However, I have experienced loss of audio rarely & intermittently with other IRDs. It was always "fixed" by a reset & I would be willing to bet that resetting your 6000 would have accomplished the same thing.
However, I will say that IMO the analog TV tuner section of the 6000's 8VSB tuner module is not particularly impressive. Neither was the TV tuner in the Model 5000.
I would recommend that you simply delete the analog ch's from the 8VSB and instead split the output of your OTA antenna & feed one leg directly to your TV's antenna input (via your VCR if you have one).
You will probably find that OTA anaolg reception is superior using the TV/VCR. That's what I do and that's how we do the installation for the majority of our customers.

Nope I am not having a video problem (the video is fine) the problem is no audio on Analog Over The Air Channels. All other channels have audio.

I had that problem one time. I had to delete all OTA channels from the Guide, powe off, pull the OTA card, power on, run the multi-switch check, power off, re-insert the OTA card firmly, power on, add the channels back in. Audio came back. Sorry I don't know which of these steps actually corrected the problem, I just followed ATS's instructions.
