View Full Version : Question about the Zinwell SAM-4803 and the AT9 dish

Ok, my installer installed the SAM-4803 a few months ago. I told him it was the wrong switch and that I needed a WB68, but he demurred by stating that the SAM-4803 was unofficially approved for the AT9 Dish.

I get good signals (mid 90's) on all 103 (b) TPs except for 2 and 4. I get 0's on those two TPs.

DirectTV promised me that I could have a WB68 installed this Friday when my new HR-20 arrives as well.

I take it with my current configuration that there is no way for me to receive the new HD (if available) until the new switch is installed?

Why in the world would the installer be so adamant against installing the WB68? He told me he had several but that "they are unecessary" for "your install."

I had problems with the 6803 (6 outputs instead of 4) on the ch.499 test. I got Directv to send a tech out to replace it with the WB68 and all those problems went away. That was before D10 started putting out signals we could measure.

That installer was full of it - there is no "unofficially approved" multiswitch.

The 4803 will work with the non H20/HR20 receivers, as the "old" receivers can't pick up the Ka low bands anyway. You make it sound like you don't have an H20/HR20 yet, because you say it will arrive Friday. However, I guess you already have a H20/HR20 because you are posting numbers from the 103b. The fact that you aren't getting those two transponders shows that the 4803 isn't compatable, because they aren't spotbeaming any signals from the 103b, and therefore you shouldn't be getting any zeros. I have upper 80s and 90s on 1-8, 9-14, 17 and 22.

You could bypass the 4803 with a barrel connector to get the new HDs, but since the new HD's didn't show up today, it is probably a mute point.

Yes, I already have one HR-20. I will keep the barrel connector in mind just in case my install gets canceled or the channels show up tomorrow. Just to be clear... you are referring to the female/female connectors that you can use to connect two lines of coax? Would a decent splitter work as a temp. fix as well? I'm assuming it will have to pass certain frequencies? I think I have one that does like 5-2750 mhz or thereabouts.

Thank you very much for your in-depth response.
