call DirecTV and ask to be escalated to engineering and contact your local station and speak to/email an engineer

I'd also think about contacting your local station's engineering department.

Local station engineering worked for me, but I was able to confirm the problem was also OTA, hence, firmly laying the problem at the stations.

Call the chief engineer and then if he is not responsive, call the general manager. General managers love to hear how you're not planning on watching their programming because of picture problems.

well... the channel on OTA is fine... it's only when viewing through d*... but d* blames it on the station and the station blames it on d*... i guess i will just keep emailing... thanks for the tips!

Ooops - that's gonna be an extra roadblock.

Still, if you tell the local station engineer that there is a retransmission problem with their DirecTV signal, they will often check into getting DirecTV to fix the problem.
Or when you call DirecTV, complain that DirecTV provides the signal to you over the SAT so why should you have to do their leg work in fixing the signal they're supposed to deliver to you in good working order. I've had to do that on a few occasions to get the matter escallated to the proper people in DirecTV's engineering department. They always want to blame the local station and have you call them to get it fixed.
I still check with the local station, but always push it as far as possible with DirecTV to get it looked into on both ends.
