Well,

I had seen/noticed all my series and individual TO-DO recordings showed start times of xx:59 (one minute before hour of start). I didn't think much of it until it caused an obvious problem. I had two programs recording prior to another starting right after. However, since the one right after was 9:59 and not 10:00 the HR20 showed a conflict and the recording did not work....since already two shows were recording with one minute left. Thus, because of this one minute overlap I missed a recording. I assume this is known and realized as a bug ? Since obviously the Guides show items starting on the hour it must be D* for some reason backing off the start time one minute ?

What are the shows? The networks sometimes monkey with start times when shows premiere.

If it's all shows, it sounds like your defualt recording options are set to begin recording 1 minute early.

To change currently recorded series, go into the prioritizer. Select each series. "Select Rec. Series" from the menu. Change start time to "on time".

One time recorded programs would need to be changed from the To Do List of Guide, by selecting them individually.

To change the default recording options. Start after you select "Rec Series" on one of your series. From there, press the menu button. Scroll down to "Record Defaults". When you select that, you can selct "Start", or any other item, and change how yo want this item to default when you record new programs.

Wow............the BUG is called my wife.

I asked her if by chance when she set up these series recordings if she put 1 minute early and 5 minutes late.....yup....bingo. Her intents were good because shows seems to start almost a few seconds into the recording when you put at normal start. However, she never thought about the conflict that if there is already two recordings schedules to go and a new one kicks off 1 minute early that one of the new schedules ones is rejected.

Anyway, this does bring up a a good point....I think the HR20 should accomodate for this......mostly as a finish late item. What I mean is it knows the shows already set to record....it's knows the prioritizer...so it should know there will be an overlap issue. Perhaps it already does if you are setting up a recording and there is a conflict but the way this happened was I hit a manual recording of a show before two others were going to kick off.....thus one of the two scheduled ones was cancelled/error. So, here is how I think this should work...........

1) If you are setting up recordings and a third conflicts it lets you know there is a conflict and gives you a choice....I think the HR20 may already be this way.

2) If you already have two recordings going and hit a manual that will conflict the HR20 should know and notify you if there is already two recordings going and give you options....may already do this..........but lastly the scenario I ran into is if those conflicting recordings are coming up (scheduled) it should be able to detect that and notify. I know it does not do this because this is what I ran in to.

My only other comment is the notifaction. I think it is setup to basically cancel your current request or delete one of the others. D* needs to add a third to allow you to reset the start time of the one your selection will conflict with or the end time of the one you are selecting that will cause the conflict. Cleary, the HR20 has the info to do this.

If all 3 are series links, it may not know right away that there is a conflict. It these in the backgroud. There is an item on the wish list to provide notification. If you haven't updated the wish list lately, check it out here http://www.sizethis.com/index.php?module=results&survey=28

Tell your wife she needs to hit REWIND when she starts to view a show. For some strange reason the HR20 doesn't start playing a show back at the beginning it starts a few seconds late.

Although, there are problems with the internal clock of the HR20 starting recording late and ending early as well as the networks not keeping to their schedule. For soe reason the HR20 seems to suffer from these ills more than the Tivo units.

The two that were scheduled to record were Series recordings. The one that ran into one of these was a manual record from Guide. Good to see there is items on a wish list but I think this is more a bug. I can see having additional options/configurability as I stated and the Wishlist goes over. But for this scenario I think this is a bug since the HR20 knows when you are about to conflict with a recording thru the menu...thus when you hit a manual record off the Guide it should ID that this selection should run into conflict with upcoming item. I'm guessing the bug here is that it may be judging the upcoming item(s) based on standard start times and not any of the adjusted times the user set. If so, D* should tweek their search for conflicts to the actual settings chosen for start/end....not just use Guide timeline data. I've never run into this before and only reason I think I did is because my wife had put the one minute early start time.
