I generally do not read the statistics on extension cords unless the cord looks weak (lamp cord size) or the demand is heavy (sump pump, weed whacker, electric chain saw).
Didn't really want to turn my preference into yet another argument. I have a long SS cord I use for things like a saw. Don't remember the specs. I've sure someone will now make me look up the specs...
I just haven't heard the term ss like that before off the top of my head. Didn't know if that meant something specific.
Sounds like industrial power cord. I think I've seen it just never called it ss before.
I'm a believer in go bigger so everything gets to work easier and have less stress. ( why work at the upper edge of its abilities vs 70%)
Granted I'm sure everything can handle more than it's rated for anyway.
I've always felt using 12 over 14 is better for several reasons, heat being one of them. This extra insulation jacket is an interesting twist. I'm guessing it's a rating as you say for the cable. I'll try and remember to look at the ratings for one older giant cable I have and see what it says.

I just spent some time with my Electrician's Handbook, it is easier to read than the code books but I can't find SS cords in it. And I'm done looking, I'm sorry I'm mentioned SS cord.

I'm using 12 GA SJ for my 1.5 HP pool pump (240V , load is usually about 5.5-6 amps) .
I'm also using it in my backup poolpump (3/4 HP) - 120V max load 11amps.
